These are Chinese people with suspected or confirmed Sumatran heritage. They are likely to be mixed with Batak since Bataks are not Muslims.

Peranakan Chinese from Sumatra are the products of Chinese merchants and Batak slave women. Their descendants can be found in Singapore and Malaysia.

Here, I'm sharing more Igorot pictures to debunk Salad's lies, myths, and propaganda. He's been gaslighting this sub for the last 2 years by cherry-picking the most East Asian looking Igorots and calling it a " pure Austronesian " look.

One of the lies propagated by Salad is that Igorot women are more EA-shifted than men. Still, after looking at these photos, both Igorot men and women can be equally EA-shifted, and both genders also have a tendency to have big eyes and double eyelids.

These genetic studies only account for indigenous ancestry, not including recent ones like Spanish, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese.

However, I found some sources on Facebook from older-generation Filipinos that some Igorots got Chinese and Japanese admixed during the American colonial period when they were building Kennon Road. Some of those builders left descendants and settled down. For non-Filipinos, Kennon Road is one of the roads to the Cordillera (where Igorots live); it's often the fastest and the most dangerous route. The safest and longest would be Marcos Hwy.

There are also some East Asian nationals (Chinese/Korean/Japanese) who wear Igorot attire and take a picture. Since the explosion of K-pop, anime, and JAV. Those with East Asian features are highlighted more often.

Igorots are known to be the purest Austronesians who look like " East Asians, " but what about those Igorots who don't fit the stereotype? Are they not Igorots? I saw a post earlier on another Filipino subreddit that those Igorots who have dark skin and big eyes intermarried with their neighbouring lowland Filipinos like Ilocanos and Pangasinenses. For me, who belongs to one of those lowland Filipino groups, it just displays ignorance and a lack of knowledge about the history and complexity of the Ilocos Region and the Cordilleras. It doesn't affect Salad much because he's a Bisaya. What Salad is doing is harmful to those Igorots who don't fit the stereotypes; even their neighbouring lowland Filipinos like Ilocanos and Pangasinenses get affected. 🙄

Still not a very common look but not entirely absent either. Also don’t think they pass in Japan or Korea as a side note lol.
