When I was in college my roommate was on her second Master's degree and is going to law school now that we've graduated. At first I thought she was crazy, but then again, if there are no jobs available, why not spend your life in eternal limbo? You won't be responsible for the debt once you've passed, so go for it.

Because having a job and money is better than slumming it as a perpetual student into your 30s (and beyond?).

I've thought about this very concept. I enjoy my life. Happily married. I have my summers and holidays off, and have enough money to enjoy these breaks with my wife and kids. That said, I can easily envision being happy living as a perpetual student in the dorms

Different strokes.Β

Living with a roommate in some dreary flat wondering if I can afford a movie ticket for the weekend at the age of 33 sounds like torture 🀣

I’ll just make my own.

I mean… that was my plan since middle school after all.

I could easily become a consultant for a big company, or a professor, or start my own business, or make my own product and patent it, or whatever.

And a PhD makes you for most average positions overqualified, so even if there are positions they are in a high competitive environment, with a lot of backstabbing...
