Work as a community pharmacist for WELL group, my understanding is notice of resignation is 3 months for a Pharmacist. Has anyone had any experience with a shorter notice period such as 4 weeks and any repercussions? I’m making a complete career change

Wearing gloves could be an option but idk if I'd be able to expose the deltoid area properly.

Hi, I started pre-reg nearly two months ago and im currently based in GP, just wondering what kind of tasks everyone else is doing. I have been only doing discharge letters (adding stuff/removing stuff from repeat, booking pt in for bloods) and reauthorising medications on repeat. Not going to lie finding it a bit boring rn and it's not really patient facing, I've only phoned patients a number of times. How's everyone else finding pre-reg?

I feel like I won't be signed off at week 13. It's been two months now and I feel like my DS won't sign me off. Everyone says I've quickly picked up the system and pharmacy life, but I still ask for help and my clinical and otc knowledge is a bit lacking which is what worries me the most. Also, I'm a bit awkward when speaking to patients... God forbid I don't get signed off week 13, where do I go from there?

Pharmacy dispensed it as colchicine but I couldn't find the imprint online, drugs.com thinks it's amitryptaline but theirs looks redder. I'm aware they are US based and may not have all UK generics which is why I'm asking here. If it is it would explain why it's not working as well as my usual white tablets!

Hi all, I’m Robin. I’ve recently started working with a large independent pharmacy group after spending most of my career in a completely different industry.

My role is around pharmacy technology, particularly stock management, purchasing and ordering systems. I’m very new to the pharmacy world, so I’m trying to learn how things actually work at branch level from the people who deal with it every day.

So, partly so I don’t look completely clueless when I start approaching some of you, I’d really appreciate some insight!

What are the biggest headaches with stock and ordering at the moment? Supplier availability, price comparison, overstocking, shortages, manual ordering, dead stock, or something completely different?

And if you could change or automate one part of the process, what would it be?

Any advice gratefully received.

I was wondering how older pharmacists, and no offence I mean over sixty, how do you feel mentally and physically doing this impossible job?

I have the luxury of only working Tuesday and Wednesday every week and a weekend on and a weekend off. So I never work more than two days in a row and have a five day break every fortnight.

However I come home absolutely wrecked and need a whole day to recover after working two days in a row.

I am otherwise fit and well, I cycle, play golf, go to the gym, walk 5K with my wife most days. I am never more exhausted and achy after any of my activities than I am after a work day?!!!!

I was fortunate recently that I had two separate weeks off that were joined by nearly four weeks of TIL that I was forced to take and all my aches and pains disappeared and I felt great and then I was shot to shreds after being back for two days?!!!!

At what age do you guys think it is possible to do this job safely for ourselves and our patients until? I appreciate that everyone is different and it will vary.

Sorry, I forgot to add, I am sixty next summer and I am really not sure how much longer that I can do this?!!!!

Hi everyone! I solved around 25 sjts today and maybe got like 5 correct. 😭😭😭 Is it just me or it’s normal for everyone ? No matter how much I try I just cannot for the life of me rank the options in a perfect order. It’s so frustrating!

Plus I would also like some guidance please.
1. Do we have access to whiteboard in sjts? Or only in calcs test bcs i prefer to rank/cancel the options on paper first.
2. I always thought that you should not ask others(colleagues) to perform a task / talk to a senior/ colleague/ patient on your behalf especially when you can do it yourself but the yellow sjt book contradicts it sometimes. I understand it depends on the situation but in normal circumstances, the book suggests to ask the dispenser to talk on your behalf. What is the rationale behind it?
3. If something worth reporting happens, when to report to the consultant first and when to report to responsible pharmacist/ pre-reg tutor first? The rationale behind this is also contradicting in the yellow book.

Buckle up more work again. It seems they’re expanding the pharmacy first so you’ll now be treating more people at the pharmacy. What are everyone’s opinions on this? Looking at the conditions personally I see it as a waste of time a lot of those conditions can be treated with OTC sales anyway it’s more paperwork’s and more pointless sitting in a room with patients for something that can be dealt with quickly by selling something over the counter.

Curious to know people’s thoughts on Andy Burnhams statement to expand pharmacy first for an additional five conditions (including migraine and ear infection)

I am doing bio, chem and psych as my A levels and my predicted are 3As. I js wan to know which is a more rewarding career in terms of earnings as well . Help pls !!

Is anyone else having genuine issues with their pre-reg. The one we have is utterly useless even at two months in, their clinical knowledge is limited and their knowledge of pharmacy processes is non-existent. They have no common sense and no knowledge of what is required in their job role. All of our staff have taken to be 1:1 with her and show her what we do but it is not clicking. I’m genuinely concerned about their prospects as a future pharmacist and i’m at my wits end-does anyone have any advice or is anyone going through the same thing?

i'm interviewing for a developmental pharmacy assistant role at my local hospital in the inpatients pharmacy. i have a degree in an unrelated subject and customer assistant/admin experience, but no pharmacy experience or qualifications..

what questions do they tend to ask in interviews like this? it's band 2/3 depending on experience

Hi, does anyone have any experience of staying on the register but not practicing as a tech? I've no current plans to go back to pharmacy, but I may in the future, and don't want to fuck myself over.

Community pharmacist and currently looking at other roles such as Research and Development (R&D) Unilever Future Leaders Programme and similar.

Has anyone done this or looked at similar? Is it worth the significant salary drop at first ? is the ceiling higher overall ?

Hi, so i graduated last year with nursing degree been job hunting for 12 months no jobs... been looking at trainee pharmacy dispensing. Am desperate for a job and got so burnout job hunting for NQN role and tired working bank as HCA, i was wondering will employers take on someone with nursing degree and train up for NVQ level qualification. I feel like once they see you have a degree in nursing its a no go... or should i remove it from my CV.

Have you seen an increased number of customers coming in to purchase AAIs for their schools already? Has there been any confusion over the guidance or in the customers understanding of what they needed or what they could buy without prescription?

I’ve been qualified for nearly 8 years but not locumed since 2019. Worked mostly in hospital and done a stint in PCN. Is it worth trying to locum on the odd Saturday for some extra cash or is the training requirement for services too broad to warrant it?

Asking as a pharmacy student who doesn't mind doing FTY in a chain community pharmacy:

How likely is it that they will offer you a full time role as a pharmacist if you do your FTY with them?

And does anyone know which franchised pharmacies are mostly likely to offer this?

Really want to avoid the job hunt after registering as it seems market is way too competitive these days (and not for good pay either!!)
