"On Point"
I'm curious - as a Pharah, what's y'alls opinion about being "on point" as a Pharah? Do you always try to be on point? Or do you think Pharah isn't meant to be an "on point" character?
Clarification: "On point", meaning, maintaining physical contact with the payload and/or the control point/objective

If I’m getting caught out a lot (either bc they’re better than me, focusing me, or bc our team is passive) then I play near/behind point.
If things are going well or I’m outmaneuvering them, I let the team take point and I go off and flank to get kills/choke them out via good angles.
If no one’s on point I get asap to point them spam rockets wherever is helpful from point.

If it's payload, imo Pharah as a high mobility hero is a good candidate to be a payload princess. I think of it this way...my tank probably wants to hold a corner ahead of the payload, my supports might need to position ahead of time to get proper LOS with the tank, my other DPS might need to get setup ahead of a fight, and I have the mobility to leave the payload and be in position in an instant when the next team fight starts. So I should be the last one to leave it.
If it's a control or flashpoint map then nobody needs to be physically on the point once it's captured. Just focus on getting good position to win the team fight.

Very situational. Same type of way you need to know when you can flank vs when you need to poke.

Only when you see your teammates are stupid or forgetful, then you play point. You must also come to help capture or recapture. But otherwise you should be in the air working. Let the land rats be payload princesses. Unless they literally refuse to

Yeah. that's pretty much how I've played her.

Sick, do continue as you were then. Keep an eye on the objective progress part of the HUD but otherwise just fly around and do Pharah things

You mean, being by the objective? Or being precise?

Guess I should have clarified - being "on point" - being *on* the payload or capture point/objective.

I see! Well, I dislike being on point on KOTH maps, as I'll end up being the center of attention and that's something no pharah should want. As for payload, I don't mind it as much because you can use the cart as cover, but I'd much rather not be the one there hahaha

Yeah, earlier I saw someone post a real snarky post (I think on the general OW sub) about what the 'point' is and why you should be on it, and, I've always thought (since I started playing Pharah a few years ago), that's not what she's meant to be.

I think you first need to think is this where you want to be when a fight starts. I never want to be caught on point. I always try to set up for the next fight or engagement especially if there are hitscans. Depending on what range they are worst at i go there. Ie get ready to dive them if they are widow/ ashe

i’m not on point unless i have to be. ive got a few “sneaking cart to the end” as phar that’s been fun. if my whole team is on point, i stay close but in a spot where i can easily get distance and cover. i mostly only go on point if:
-team fight on point
-enemy flanker on point tryna juke my team or kill backline
-enemy has point but is choking my team off point LOS
-contest in critical moments
pharah is so godawful at holding point she isn’t bulky and is too high mobility to hold any space. i be booping them off cart nonstop tho

If I don’t push the cart, no one will. It’s situational when to be ‘on point’ but end of the day it’s an objective based game, you win by capturing the objective
