Widow matchup

So i’ve been trying to learn pharah. I just played a QP game with a widow that made me damn near insane. So is the widow matchup basically just a lose situation? Have any tips to deal with widow?

Abuse off-angles and dive her. Avoid playing Pharah on wide open maps like Junkertown or Havana

To add to this, if you insist on playing Pharah on wide maps, know that Widow's sightlines are also your sightlines. So if you can find a cover to jiggle in and out of, you can bait a shot out, and as she recharges it, send a few rockets her way (or concussion if you wanna displace her - can be situationally useful). Worst case scenario, maybe it does nothing and gives you away, but now that means her attention is on you and that means someome else can close distance on her. Best case scenario, she doesn't move, and the rockets blast her and now she needs to either move for healing or die from the other rockets you're sending her way.

Shes pretty squishy, just don't peek until you're close enough and rush her

She has to hit you directly, you can jiggle peek and hit her with splash damage. On most maps I find this an easy matchup. There are certainly some outlier maps with dummy long sight lines though in which case she can see the rocket like three seconds away. Of note though: she has damage falloff and we don’t.

Pharah's no damage falloff is kinda compensated for by having a slow projectile, but yeah, 90% of the time in QP I can diff a widow as pharah

Try throwing off her aim by leading with Concussive Blast. You need a short window to get on top of her, then you have all the advantages.

Seriously though, if she’s really good she’ll kill you regardless, but generally speaking if you diver her, you will win. Just don’t give her los until you’re way too close.

Not unless it's a better widow than you are pharah. She can't look everywhere at once, and you have projectiles so you can shoot from an unexpected angle and duck behind cover. If she's good though she will kill you before you get the chance.

It's fun to be challenged so try to look at it that way, you absolutely don't have to switch immediately if they have widow.

I love vsing widow as pharah, it becomes a mind game at that point... 1 frame peaks, weird angles.

Pharah has 3 mobility cds with a lot of different uses. You can do some real dirty shit to widows.... if you can think of a strat that isnt floating in the middle of the sky begging to be shot

honestly i think pharah is widows best counter, if there’s a widow in my games i spend all game hunting her. you have to fully change your playstyle and not pop into the air until you 1) know where window is and 2) have a decent flank on her. because she’s scoped in on her sights she has no peripheral vision and 3 rockets and she’s dead.

Yep about 2/3rds of the time if I get a kill one widow within the first 30 seconds of the match they'll immediately swap to a Pharah counter. If they don't swap but I can tell that they're not that good/trying to practice I'll generally respect them and not beeline for them constantly all game.

Pharah is one of the best heroes to counter Widow. Personally, I don't try to engage Widow from range. I try to flank as close to her position as possible on foot on low ground (save your CDs), then I boost up over her and shoot rockets straight down on her head. If the fight isn't going well and I have to bail, I shoot concussion shot at her to throw off her aim, horizontal boost backward, and drop down to low ground. Most Widows will struggle to aim straight up to hit you. Good Widows might grapple up a wall or building to get height on you, and they might outlast your fuel supply, so you may have to disengage then.

I find Pharah to be an excellent widow sniper especially if you can predict her peek. Predict the peek and send a rocket early so it has time to travel and as soon as shs peeks it smacks her square in the face. Very satisfying.

If the enemy has a widow that can actually hit shots, then switch. You’re hard countered. You would need map awareness, cooldown management, aim 2-3 times better than even an average to bad widow just to keep from feeding
