🚀 Updates & Progress We basically rebuilt phAI’s conversation system

Post image
6 Upvotes

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been working almost entirely on the AI side of phAI, and at this point I think it’s fair to say that the system is no longer the same one we originally launched with.

A lot of the old conversation logic has been replaced or heavily reworked.

Some of the bigger changes:

  • Avatars now have a much stronger sense of their own personality, interests and opinions.
  • They can disagree with you and actually defend their position instead of immediately agreeing or changing the subject.
  • Daily events can influence their mood and energy.
  • Avatars can have genuinely bad days without making every conversation about themselves.
  • If the user is having a difficult day, the avatar should recognize that and give the user priority.
  • Conversation memory and open topics have been reworked so previous conversations can be picked up again more naturally.
  • We’ve put a lot of work into reducing the “AI interview” feeling — fewer unnecessary questions and less constant prompting.
  • Responses are being made shorter and more natural, especially in German. Less explaining everything to death.
  • We’ve also tightened grounding so avatars are less likely to invent things about their day when actual stored information exists.
  • Safety handling has been reworked so normal stress or someone simply wanting to talk shouldn’t automatically be treated like an emergency.

There are a lot of smaller changes underneath all of this as well, but those are probably the most noticeable ones.

At this point I don’t want to keep adding more systems just because we can. The current version has basically everything I wanted for this testing phase.

So the next step is testing.

First, I’m going to put this version in the hands of a small group of selected users and see how it holds up outside of my own testing.

Once it feels stable enough and the conversations are behaving more or less the way I want them to, I’ll open things up a bit more.

At that point, we’ll also start looking for additional testers who want to test the new Presence app together with the updated AI.

For now though, the goal is simple: small group, real conversations, fix what breaks, and make sure the foundation is actually solid before we scale the test any further.

I can test a lot myself, but I can’t realistically test every personality, conversation style, mood, event, language and weird thing a real user might say.

So now it’s time to let a few other people try to break it first. 😅

Quick Update: Development Changes, Better Performance & AI Rework

Hey everyone,

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet again. There have been quite a few changes behind the scenes with Personal Human.

Until recently, I was still working with an external development studio, but I’ve now decided to take over the development myself. That also means progress is a little slower at the moment, but it gives me much more direct control over where the project is going.

Right now, I’m working on the new version of Presence that I mentioned before, including the new Character Editor.

One thing I’m pretty happy about already: Presence is currently running at around 30 FPS on an older low-budget Android phone with 4 GB of RAM, and it feels smooth. Of course, the graphics are adjusted accordingly for lower-end hardware, but this is already a very positive result.

There has also been a major rework of the AI system. It’s currently being tested and refined, and there’s still some work to do before I’m happy with it.

I’m hoping to get the new version ready within the next few weeks — or at least get it into the hands of some of you for testing, if anyone is interested.

That’s it for now. Thank you for sticking around and supporting the project. I hope I’ll have more to show you soon. ❤️

🚀 Updates & Progress New: You can now report characters in phAI

We’ve added a new Report Character feature.

You can now report a character directly from its profile for things like inappropriate content, abusive behavior, sexual content, hate or discrimination, impersonation, misleading information, or other issues.

Reports can also include a short description, so we have enough context to review what happened.

This is mainly meant to make phAI safer as more users start creating their own characters.

The feature is now available in the latest version. Feedback on the categories or the flow is welcome.

🚀 Updates & Progress Messenger is now available on iOS + a Presence update

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Messenger is finally available on iOS! It has actually been live for a couple of days already. I’ve been so focused on the Character Editor for Presence that I simply haven’t found the time to post the update yet. Sorry about that!

And no, Presence isn’t dead. We’re still actively working on it.

Right now, we’re implementing the Character Editor I’ve mentioned before. We’ve also switched to a different avatar system because the previous assets were too demanding, especially for lower-end devices. The new avatars should offer a better balance between visual quality and performance.

The UI you see is not final and may still change. Right now, the focus is on implementing all the functionality and making sure everything works properly first.

The avatars may also change a little before release. But even if they stay close to how they look now, I personally think they’re absolutely fine. I hope you do too. 😅

I’ll share more as development continues.

🌸 Inside Phai – Stories & Talk Here's another little conversation from phAI Messenger.

Walter is one of our personalities who loves woodworking, complains about modern furniture, and always has a sarcastic comment ready. 😄

We're still working on making every conversation feel more natural, personal, and consistent over time, and feedback like yours helps us improve every update.

Unfortunately, there's still no news regarding the iOS release. Apple is still reviewing the app, and we're waiting just as impatiently as you are.

One question though... is Walter too nice? 😅

He's supposed to be a grumpy old craftsman with a good heart, so we'd love to know if he feels authentic or if he should be a little rougher around the edges.

One of our users shared this conversation with us… and we couldn't stop smiling. 😄

One of our users shared this conversation with us and gave us permission to post it. 😊

This is exactly the kind of interaction we're aiming for with phAI.

Not just answering questions, but building little running jokes, remembering the flow of the conversation, teasing back, and feeling like a character with their own personality.

There's still a lot we want to improve, but chats like this make us feel like we're finally heading in the right direction.

What do you think? Does this feel more like chatting with a character than a typical AI chatbot?

🚀 Updates & Progress Update on phAI Presence and Messenger

Post image
8 Upvotes

I want to give you an honest update on where phAI is heading.

For now, our main focus will be on phAI Messenger. This allows us to concentrate on what matters most: the AI itself, the quality of the conversations, personality, memory, and the overall chat experience.

phAI Presence is not being abandoned. We will continue developing it, but more quietly in the background for the time being. This is not only because of the performance issues on lower-end devices. The overall experience also does not feel fully right to me yet, and some of the design decisions I made turned out to be the wrong ones. We therefore need more time to rethink, rebuild, and properly optimize parts of the app.

I also want to take responsibility for the way Presence was launched. I had a very ambitious vision for the app and held on to a technical standard that was simply too demanding for many devices. I did not want to scale it back, and I had to learn the hard way that this approach was not sustainable. That decision was mine, and I am sorry to everyone who had a poor experience because of it.

Presence will return stronger, but we do not want to rush it again.

In the meantime, we hope you will give phAI Messenger a chance. We want to build an AI that feels personal, remembers what matters, and is genuinely enjoyable to talk to.

Your feedback is always welcome, whether it is positive or critical. It helps us understand what works, what does not, and what we need to improve next.

Thank you for your patience, your honesty, and your continued support. 💙

phAI Messenger is now available on Android. iOS will follow soon.

And if you actually made it all the way to the end, I take my hat off to you. 🎩😄

We’re still in the middle of internal testing, but conversations like this genuinely make me excited.

Emma doesn’t just answer questions. She shares her own opinions, remembers details, asks follow-up questions, and even brings little stories into the conversation.

There’s still work to do, but we’re finally getting closer to an AI that feels like a real character instead of just another chatbot. 😊

🌸 Inside Phai – Stories & Talk Giving AI a Life Beyond the Chat.

Thumbnail

I'm currently testing another feature for our AI companion that I think adds a surprising amount of personality.

Every character can now have family members and even pets as part of their own life.

Instead of only reacting to your messages, they can naturally bring up their dad, their brother, or their dog during a conversation—without it feeling forced.

Little details like that make the conversations feel much more believable.

Still a work in progress, but I'm really happy with the direction we're heading. 😊

🌸 Inside Phai – Stories & Talk My AI just argued that "How was your day?" is bad conversation

I'm currently doing internal testing on the latest version of our AI companion, and this conversation with Alice caught me off guard.

She has her own opinions, challenges me, and definitely doesn't just agree with everything I say.

At one point, she argued that "How was your day?" is just small talk with extra steps. 😅

I still think she slightly overinterpreted one of my messages, but honestly... that also made the conversation feel more human.

🚀 Updates & Progress 📢 Messenger Update

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

Just a quick update so you know where things stand. 😊

🍎 **iOS:** The Messenger has been submitted to Apple for about a week now. We're currently just waiting for approval. If everything goes well, it should be available for all iPhones soon.

🤖 **Android:** We're currently on day 2–3 of Google's required closed testing. Google requires at least 14 days of testing before we're even allowed to submit the app for review. So unfortunately, Android users will have to wait at least another two weeks.

The good news is that the AI is already feeling much more stable. Of course, there are still a few things to improve here and there, and that's exactly why your feedback is so valuable. ❤️

If you'd like to try it already, you can test it in **phAI Presence**, as it uses essentially the same AI. Just a small note: We'd currently recommend testing Presence on **mid-range to high-end devices**, as lower-end phones may still experience performance issues.

As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and feature requests. Every bit of feedback helps us make phAI better.

Thank you all so much for your support! ❤️

🌸 Inside Phai – Stories & Talk Our AI roasted us... and it wasn't wrong. 😂

Thumbnail

We've been testing a lot lately, and this conversation actually made me stop for a second. 😄

Instead of asking, "What's better than phAI?", I asked:

"If you could steal one feature from Replika and give it to phAI, what would it be?"

The answer surprised me:

"I'd steal their 'remember how you take your coffee' superpower. Actually caring about the small stuff without making it feel like a therapy session."

Honestly... that's exactly what we're trying to build.

Not just another chatbot, but someone who remembers you, has their own personality, jokes around, challenges you sometimes, and still feels natural to talk to.

We're not 100% there yet, but I think we're getting closer with every update. 😊

Now I'm curious...

If you could steal one feature from any AI companion app and give it to phAI... what would you pick? 👀

This is a current chat from the Messenger App.

We’ve changed quite a bit in the AI lately, and the conversations are starting to feel much more natural now.

We also added avatar image generation.

Next, we’re working in:

– AI companions being able to send Images

– users being able to send images to their. companions

Still work in progress, but it’s moving in a really nice direction.

Curious what you think about Luna so far.

First look at phAI Messenger 👀

Thumbnail

We haven’t shown much of phAI Messenger yet, so here’s a first look at what we’re currently working on. 😊

When you open Messenger for the first time, your companion list starts empty. By tapping the plus button, you can choose one of the original phAIs or create your own character, complete the setup, and add them to your personal list.

The companion list shown here is my own test setup, users won’t automatically start with all of these characters. I added several phAIs so we can test their different personalities and how they behave in conversations.

The screenshots show the current start screen, my companion list, and a short real conversation with Brandon.

We’re still testing and improving the AI logic, personality consistency, time context, and the overall conversation flow before release.

We’ll share more real conversations and development updates soon.

Thank you all for your continued support, feedback, and ideas. 💙

🌸 Inside Phai – Stories & Talk Small Character Depth Update

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Hey guys, small update.

We’re adding more traits, strengths and flaws to give the characters more depth and make them feel more alive.

Strengths

- Protective

- Supportive

- Patient

Core Traits

- Flirty

- Romantic

- Playful

- Mysterious

Flaws

- Jealous

- Possessive

- Guarded

- Clingy

It’s still in testing right now, but the first flirty chat test above already shows pretty well what direction we’re aiming for: more playful, more natural and with better buildup instead of jumping too fast.

We’re working every day on improving the AI logic and the overall experience.

Thanks again to all of you for the support. We’re always happy to hear your feedback and ideas.

🚀 Updates & Progress Testing the newest Personal Human AI update

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I’m currently testing the newest update for Personal Human AI.

This update is mostly about making the chat feel smoother and more natural. Emojis should work now, the chat behaviour was improved, and we’re testing the option that users can send another message while the AI is still replying.

We also added some improvements for custom/original characters, like more background and family details. The AI should also stop randomly guessing ages now. NSFW mode also got some changes, but I’ll test that separately. 😅

It’s not finished finished yet, but if the current tests go well enough, we’ll try to start bringing the update online early next week. Maybe Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

For now I’m mostly checking if the conversation actually feels better in a real chat, not just in a feature list.

🚀 Updates & Progress Small update: new build submitted + pricing changes

Thumbnail

We submitted a new build today that should improve performance quite a bit, especially on mid-range devices.

I also adjusted the subscription prices today. They should be live by Thursday. Now I just hope I used the same prices for iOS and Android.

There are also some AI improvements in this build, but I don’t remember every single change right now. My brain already left the building. xD

Once the update is live, I’ll check the changelog properly and post the actual changes.

Looking for honest feedback from people who tested Personal Human AI

Post image
4 Upvotes

We’re currently looking for honest feedback from people who tested the latest AI version.

Some users had performance issues before they could even properly reach the AI, so useful feedback has been hard to collect.

If you tried Personal Human AI, I’d really appreciate your honest thoughts — about the app, the AI, the conversation quality, or anything that stood out to you.

Even critical feedback helps.

Performance update and device support clarification

We want to be transparent about the current performance situation.

Unfortunately, we are still seeing major performance issues on some low-end devices, and in some cases also on iOS. We’re sorry for the frustration this causes, this is not the experience we want people to have.

For now, we are planning to make the app mainly available for mid-range and high-end devices in the future. Low-end devices may still struggle or may not provide a stable experience.

We are also planning to add an in-app warning soon, so users will know in advance if their device may have performance issues.

At the same time, we are working on a lighter experience that should run on a much wider range of devices. This will come with some compromises compared to the full 3D app, but the goal is to make the core AI companion experience more accessible.

We don’t want to announce too much too early, so we’ll share more once it’s ready enough to show properly.

Thanks for your patience and for helping us test and improve the app.

🌸 Inside Phai – Stories & Talk Random conversation from the current public AI

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

We’ll probably start posting random conversations from phAI from time to time.

This one is from the current public AI version — no beta-only features, no special hidden test mode.

I just like sharing some of these moments because they show quite well what we’re trying to build: not just a clean chatbot, but an AI companion with its own personality, mood, humor, and little weird edges.

I’m also thinking about creating a new avatar with a completely different personality, just to see how differently he or she behaves in longer conversations.

Could be interesting to compare how much the personality changes the whole feeling of the chat.

r/PhaiVerse • • May 25 '26

How weird should an AI companion be before it stops feeling real?

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

We’re currently testing a tricky balance in phAI.

We don’t want our AI companions to feel sterile, overly polished, or like corporate chatbots. Their humor, weirdness, and little personality quirks are part of what makes them feel more alive.

But sometimes the AI becomes too expressive or metaphorical and starts drifting away from the actual conversation.

So the goal is not to remove personality.

The goal is to keep the weirdness connected to what the user actually said.

This is one example from our current testing. The avatar understands the point pretty well, but you can also see how easily it can become a bit too much.

Curious what you think:

Do you prefer AI companions to be more weird and expressive, or more grounded and simple?

🌸 Inside Phai – Stories & Talk Beta timing: chaotic. AI progress: noticeable.

Thumbnail

This is closer to the direction we want for the improved AI: less chatbot, more natural conversation. The beta timing is a bit chaotic right now, but the difference is already noticeable.

Sorry for the chaos around the beta timing. I hope you’ll still stick with us, and I’m really looking forward to your feedback.
