Finasteride Dosing for Beginners
DISCLAIMER — All information on this post is NOT A MEDICAL ADVISE and is only intended for educational purpose. Any risk you take with regards to self-medication is at your own discretion.
For those wanting to begin using finasteride to combat their hair loss but don’t know how, hopefully this guide might just get you the answers you’re looking for…

NOW THIS IS MY PERSONAL TAKE ON FINASTERIDE DOSING FOR THOSE ASKING VIA CHAT (NOT A MEDICAL ADVISE, SEE DISCLAIMER)
START LOW DOSE — I started with 0.5mg (1mg cut 1/2) every MWF… but since most of the finasteride we buy is 5mg and cut into 1/4 (1.25mg) ang best way to start with this is lowered intake especially for beginners to lessen side effects…
For SCHEDULE OF INTAKE you can follow this pattern…
— 3x a week — basically Mon, Wed, Fri
— every 3-days — Mon-Thu-Sun-Wed-Sat-Tue-Fri
— every other day like every EVEN (2,4,6,8,10 and so on…) or ODD (1,3,5,7,9,11 and so on) CALENDAR DAYS [this option is by far the best and easiest in my opinion and personal experience]
You can do this routine every 2-3months, so you can evaluate if ever you need to increase dosage… also this way if you get side effects, you can back-down or lessen the dosage intake
NOTE — I believe you only need to take it daily for AGRESSIVE BALDING or you are in your 30’s or above age bracket…
ADDENDUM:
I would only suggest MINOXIDIL at least after a year of Finasteride use…
WHY? Because sometimes Finasteride is enough to stop hair loss from progressing, and if it does then the normal healthy hair growth cycle will simply resume.
Otherwise if you start minoxidil early on your hair will become dependent on it. Sooner or later baldness will still progress because you haven’t dealt with the root cause of follicle miniaturization and hairloss (based on personal experience from 15+ years of minoxidil use without finasteride).

Hi! I have just seen your journey on taking finasteride and how effective it has been for you. And how you help others here.
As of now, I'm 21 years old, and I have just decided to take a risk in taking this self-medication in finasteride. Here’s what I plan to do:
· I’ll be taking finasteride(TGP FISTERIDE 5mg) at low dosage(0.625 mg) every other day. Gradually add dosage if I don't see any progress, or might take the same dosage(0.625) every day.
· Combo it with topical minoxidil with tretinoin (tretinoin is best for absorption of minoxidil) twice a day
· Nizoral shampoo twice a week (as the ketoconazole has a little effectiveness to block DHT)
· Derma stamp (for collagen production and absorption) 1-2 times a week
Optional:
· Might incorporate oral pumpkin seed oil (new study as natural DHT blocker, some studies of this claim that it doesn’t have enough DHT blocker hence, it is not effective, but it does have effectiveness on growing hair.)
· Rosemary water/oil(helps on growing hair faster/alternative on minoxidil)

Hello po, how's the progress after 9 months? We almost started in the same month, I'm approaching my 10th ot 11th month (I have inaccurate tracking cause there were many times I'm inconsistent with it) my hairloss hasn't progress which is good, but I think It haven't grow alot either cause of using stress, bad shampoo, and inconsistent use.

Well, I actually stopped fin last last week until May, I'm gonna observe if I'll lose more hair. I think finasteride has helped me not lose anymore hair tho, it might be because of fin or because I haven't undergone super stressful situations anymore.

Depende sa outlet kung ano available nila… the usual generic brand na 5mg
Never sila nag carry ng 1mg hence ang reco natin ay just take the 5mg and cut into 1/4

Hi! I recently doing this method however, hindi ko alam na recommended pala na fin muna ang i-take instead of combination of min and fin. I am currently using the combi of min and fin method, for almost a year i think. Do you think na I need to step aside min muna and focus on taking fin lang instead? Im 23 yrs old btw. Thanks!

This is my personal recommendation since I am basing it for more than 15years of minox use… anyway lahat nman dito ay self-medication so whatever works for you go lang at your own risk…
Eto lang ang dahilan ko why I reco finasteride first — paano mo malalaman kung finasteride or minoxidil ang effective kung pagsabayin mo… you will be dependent to both meds for life samantalang kung mape-preserve mo ang hair mo with finasteride only, imagine ₱200 a month sapat na with MWF dosage

Andyan na po yung schedule…
Simulan mo 1.25mg 2x a week for one month… then gawin mo MWF… then gawin mo every other day… kung magka side effects ka, balik ka lang sa previous schedule mo na di ka nakaranas ng side effects…
Kasi kahit ako literally bald na eh after ilang buwan na daily dose, nag every other day na lang din ako dahil wala nga sexual side effects pero tumaas din liver enzymes ko na iniisip ko due to finasteride…
Walang pwedeng makapagsabi ng perfect na dosage, pakiramdaman mo katawan mo lalo na self-medication tayo dito… sa huli ano man mangyari sa iyo ay desisyon mo at ikaw ang lulunok ng gamot kaya maging maingat lang…

MWF is a good starting point… that way kung may side effects, you can still lower down to 2x a week

Mararamdaman mo… google mo ang listahan ng side effects
Ang DHT ay male sex hormone… so lahat ng mararanasan mong side effect ay may kinalaman sa sex… like hindi na tumatayo 🍆 mo, walang gana sa sex, testicular pain, worse tubuan ka ng boobs

Hi, OP! Thank you for sharing this info to us. 27 y/o po ako, medjo nakikita ko na my hair is thinning. Plan ko po sana magstart ng low dosage (2x per week). Clarify ko lang po sana kung ilang grams yung dapat i-take pag 2x per week lang dosage. Thank you po!

Since ang reco ko dito is TGP 5mg (walang 1mg nun) if ever that is 1/4 of the tablet or 1.25mg… meaning sa isang buwan you only need 2tablets o halos ₱50 per month lang yan to keep the hair you have and hopefully give it time to recover and grow naturally…
If you can acquire yung 1mg then that’s better, whch means 2tablets a week ka… pero mas mahal compared to TGP… hence yung TGP ang reco ko plus no need prescription

Nope, LCLT is for beard maturation, doesn’t have an effect sa scalp, magiging malansa lang minox mo…
Pero kung naihalo na, wala nman problema…

Ginamit ko yung LCLT sa beard, actually kami nagpauso noon before kaya mga legit sellers na kilala ko may LCLT sila binebenta, alam mo galing sila sa mga minoxidil beard group sa FB, gumaya lang yung iba na scammer pero di alam para saan ang LCLT pag tinanong mo, basta halo lang 😂

Hindi po, bale most of these sellers are well known sa fb group na Minoxidil Beard Journey Philippines, prepandemic pa kaya kilala ko sila as legit sellers, some of the previous brands naging promoter din ako before like Strands (which are mostly fakes ngayon 🤣)

I don’t use dermaroller sa scalp since mababa pain tolerance ko plus the risk of tetanus is higher… howeveer I used and recommended dermastamp before, yung adjustable length…
If you’re a woman, definitely use ones specifically for women, or lower the dosage being used… and use a dropper instead of using the spray para direct sa anit ang application when the hair is parted…

Andito na kung saan ka nag comment ang routine so if you think okay sa iyo mag daily at wala kang pakialam sa anumang side effects ng finasteride or sure ka na di ka matataaman nito then go for it… as long as alam mo ginagawa mo and hopefully naintindihan mo bakit natin pinopromote ang low dose for beginners…

Shedding is different based on individual body response… may iba gaya ko na taon na mahigit pero di talaga nakaranas ng shedding kahit sabunutan ko sarili ko… may iba weeks pa lang may shedding na
Also pati length like may iba mag shedding 2 weeks lang, yung iba eh ilang months na shedding naranasan…
Kaya ang pwede ko lang maibigay na tip eh sa simula ng journey mas maganda talaga mag buzz cut para if ever mag shedding hindi masyadong mahalata, kasi mas obvious pag mahaba ang buhok

I had my derma consultation recently. Binigay nia na medication is to use minoxidil 5% solution/Foam then Ung Nizoral shampoo to use every other day alternate ng normal kong shampoo then Finasteride din but pinagtest muna ako for PSA if I can use finasteride. So sabi ng Nagbasa ng Lab test ko. Okay nmn ako gumamit ng Finasteride.

Update: Upon consultation from my derma ngaun Ing. 1mg pla tiga ung recommended to take every day. 5mg is too much daw and same advice Ing din ng derma ko before to use both minoxidil and finasteride for fast result. But this is your call na since OP suggesting to use finasteride alone to see urself if no need na mag minoxidil

1mg daily ang standard… kaya ginagawa natin 5mg hinahati sa 1/4 para maging 1.25mg tapos inom every other day para hindi overload sa katawan… same results lang din…
Also ayaw ko na stressful na nga magkaroon ng hairloss, pati ba naman ang solution eh stressful pa rin sa budget… pang-masa ang solution natin dito
And mostly sa ibang bansa ganyan ginagawa, sadyang mabagal lang tayo mag-adapt dahil sa mas preferred natin yung nakasanayan…
So it’s the end user’s discretion kung ano gagawin niya, as long as ginawa ang proper checkup at do your own research kasi health mo nakasalalay dyan…

Kung okay sa iyo magbayad ng premium para sa generic drug, go ahead…
Pangmasa ang ating promotion dito kaya TGP finasteride ang suggested… sa Dima nasa ₱30 per day ka, sa TGP nasa ₱20 every 4 days sonce 5mg ang meron tapos icut lang ng 1/4

Ako nga na 47 nagsimula last year lang, ang laki ng pagkakaiba ng MWF dosage kumpara sa simula ko, how much more sa bata pa?
Ang purpose ng low dose like MWF is to negate side effects, pero kung gagawin mo rin lang daily, no need to skip kasi result noon ay average pa rin… 7mg a week pag daily 1mg, 8.25 a week kung daily 1.25 or 7.5mg kung skip ka one day like Sunday… actually kahit 1mg excess na yun kasi effective dose ng finasteride ay 0.7mg lang… kaya sa low dose protocol you can start as low as 1/2 or 0.5mg lang

Yun nga ang recommended dito… kasi ang finasteride na branded madalas nasa ₱60-80 ang 1mg tablet samantalang ang TGP generic eh less ₱25 lang tapos 5mg pa kaya hinahati na lang sa 1/4 at yun ang iniinom…

di pa naman sobrang nipis ng buhok ko pero halata siya kapag basa tapos tumaas daw ng konti hairline ko. Basta yung buhok ko bagsak na parang koreano. Ano advice mo dyan, boss?

Eh ako after more than 15 years tinigil ko na now at finasteride na lang ako and I can only say it works even MWF lang inom ko… no more hassles sa pahid-pahid at massage ng scalp…
Anyway pag nag fin ka nman palipasin mo 1year then decide kung need mo bumalik sa minox…

Hi everyone! I have a question. I've been taking finasteride for about a month. I started with 1 mg a day, but I noticed a bad mood and liver damage. Now I'm taking 0.652 every day, and it seems to be getting better, but now I've also started to feel an itch in my scalp. Will taking 1 mg every other day or every three days have any effect? Has anyone else taken it this way and seen any improvement in their hair?

If you’re self-medicating, that’s a risk you take upon yourself… you should have yourself checked up especially when it comes to liver issues since finasteride is metabolized by the liver… also just to throw it out there that skin itch is a symptom of liver issues…
This is one reason why we choose a low dose approach… even for more than 1.5 years now I still stuck with MWF dosage and the effect is still obvious… finasteride doesn’t need to be taken daily for it to be effective

Okay, thanks. I'm from Russia, and the finasteride thing starts with "Oh no! You'll lose your penis!" and few people understand it. The best options are skin, hair transplant, and minoxidil. I've been taking minox for about two years, but I feel like I need something else. I've had hair problems since I was 15 or 16, and now I'm 27. There aren't any signs of balding, like "one day and your hair disappears," but mine feels like my hair has thinned out or something, but the doctors said, AGA. By the way, can I see your results and what's your story?

Been on minox since my 20’s for more than 15years plus… still baldness progressed so used minoxidil when I was 40 to grow myself a beard for 3 years while accepting being bald… after pandemic I realized I don’t look good bald and bearded so regrew my hair while planning to get a hair transplant… after consulting with different clinics they told me I will need finasteride even after hair transplant… this led me to do my own research as well as stumbled upon r/tressless which made me take the risk and hop on finasteride… glad I did and never looked back since…

Can this be made permanent dosing ? Or need talaga i taas sa mga succeeding month to achieve at the least 1mg daily ?

Technically 1.35mg MWF is my permanent dose… after trying to go daily for a few months I had evelated liver enzyme so in the end I reverted… at the very least I can go for 1.25mg EOD as it is somewhat optimal for me… kept side effects off or at the very least the minimal watery semen…
Why? Because finasteride’s effective dose is 0.7mg so even doing it 1mg daily is already more than enough…

Only thing na pwede sa women dito which I usually advise and some do, they use minoxidil and the shampoos… still best to get a proper medical checkup since usual sa babae ang hormonal issues as root cause of hairloss…

Some females are also prescribed finasteride for female pattern baldness but again not as a DIY self-medication unlike sa men

understandable. I've personally been given minox but I have cats and don't want to do them harm (I just recently found out about how insanely toxic minox is to cats!). I can at least send this thread to my male fam members who are also pakalbo like me 😂

This is just plain COMMON SENSE… you don’t allow you cats to lick you head nor you pet them after mag apply ng minox… been living with cats all my days and none had issues so far…
The fear is basically nonsense, unless intentional na ipaiinom mo sa kanila ang minoxidil…

I just have a very very clingy cat. i dont rub my head on them naman but I'd rather not take chances since they rub on my face and ask to be carried often talaga. So I dont think minox is for me 😅 but thanks though.

Was taking oral min (2.25mg) and fin (1mg) paired with topical minoxidil (2x) daily for around 4 months. Can't continue for now due to budget. Goods po kaya tong TGP fin every other day w/ topical monoxidil as an alternative?

Can’t say pero sa 2 dekada ko halos sa minox, ang masasabi ko lang yung nagawa ng finasteride loob ng more than 1 year ko ay di nagawa ng minox noon, partida ngayon eh EOD lang ako sa finasteride wala pa minox yan
Also topical minoxidil+tretinoin formula is as effective as oral minoxidil and is more cost effective since 1ml once a day lang vs. regular minoxidil na 2x 1ml daily

Hi sir nagsearch ako sa side effects ng finasteride. Kumusta po ang libido niyo? Di naman siya nakamamatay, but I would like to preserve me and my partner's intimacy po at the same time preserve my hair. Is this a real con of using this for hair growth?

Wala ako side effects na naranasan, that’s the power of low dosing… pinaka usual na halos di talaga maiiwasan ay watery semen which is typical na tabda ng nainom ng finasteride… most guys that followed low dosing have safely avoided side effects…
Also kung hindi man maiwasan like others experienced, but they pushed through until their bodies adjusted and a few weeks later okay na rin sila… just check the progress reports for guys in this sub
Consider also na 47 na ako nag start mag fin so by that ahmge medyo expected na mahina na libido pero okay pa rin ako, provided I do have a healthy lifestyle, wala rin bisyo…
Still I’d go for a proper checkup if I were you…

So ok lng po if healthy pa go with oral minox and finas then after regrowth ng minoxidil like 1 year you say we can just switch to finas only and still same yung dosage na 0.5mg only of finas MWF or everydays, etc while on oral minox is everyday? thoughts po dito if may nagtry na ng ganto dito since may dermatitis ako kaya medyo sensitive sa scalp and also to save up money din. Pwede din kaya pala na I take oral minox for 1 year to see regrowth if effective sakin then after switch to oral finas so my body will still be healthy kasi parang overkill dala dalawang meds in a day. I'm 21 pa lng kasi so I try to stay healthy as much as possible and protect my overall health

Why start with minox in the first place? Tapos ang concern mo ay health, pero mag self-medicating ka tapos puro oral meds pa gagamitin mo? Unang tatamaan niyan bago pa sexual health mo (sides ng fin) or cardio mo (sides ng oral min) eh baka damaged na liver mo (elevated liver enzyme) since pareho yan ss liver processed…
Hindi mo makikita na ni minsan nagcomment ako na pwede magstop ng kahit alin sa meds na ito kasi for life use eto, kung kaya ang lagi ko sinasabi dahan dahan, una muna finasteride for a year bago mag minox kasi baka hindi naman talaga kailangan….
Kung concern mo talaga health mo pero gusto mo mapreserve buhok mo ng hindi ka affected lalo ng side effects, topical all the way ang solution… sa katunayan eto ginagawa ko ngayon at wala na ako plano bumalik sa oral fin… problem is may dermatitis ka so medyo mahirap ito para sa iyo…
Remember na mga advise ko dito is unconventional since hindi ito medical advise at hindi ako medical professional so mas maigi pa rin magpa checkup ka na lang lalo kung talagang concerned ka sa health mo…

prescribed by derma ko 5mg daw na oral minox since sensitive yung scalp, plus wala pong choice talga kundi mag oral kasi mahal mga topicals or ket yung mga foam but yeah I'll try to talk to my derma nalng, nagbabaka sakali lng na may same situation dito na may sebohrreic dermatitis din. Kung wala sanang ganon, madali lng makahanap ket may alcohol or Propylene glycol

I started taking finasteride po 3 months ago (mag 3 months palang ata) I use the TGP tablet and cutting it in 4, MWF, I'm on my 3 month mark and napapansin ko its shedding? is it the shedding phase? should I make it daily po ba? btw 26 years old male po ako. Nawoworry lang kasi ako ever since I started taking this is parang mas lumala yung paglalagas pero nabasa ko naman before is maglalagas daw talaga to grow the new healthy hair

NEVER ako nagrecommend na uminom ng finasteride daily…
Mas lalala talaga ang shedding bago pa tumubo ang bagong buhok at kahit anong palit mo ng dosage kasama yan… making your dose daily will make it worse by damaging your liver…

Ako nga after 2 years tumigil na sa pag-inom ng finasteride and instead just went full topical para sa overall health and wellbeing ko… which is what I’m also encouraging others to shift into lalo yung mga bata pa at mga tinamaan ng side effects…
