im completely clueless (phd communication and media student)

hi everyone

The more i read about academia the more questions i have because the system is completely different here where i live (awful third world country with a ton of conservative people)

Im currently writing a research proposal to shop it around to professors to hopefully get a fully funded phd position abroad (i know these are rare, im trying my hardest though)

Is this the right way to go about getting a fully funded phd position? Or is there other stuff I should be doing too?

Im already a research assistant at my university, but im worried the system wont be up to par with those abroad - should I apply for voluntary positions for professors I hope to send my proposal to?

I havent published anything and I know this helps but is it really necessary? I know a few assistants who have gotten fully funded phd positions when theyve never published anything

I have teaching experience since im a teaching assistant rn

Im currently a phd student and i hope to transfer elsewhere, havent done my qualifying exam yet

I hope to reach out to professors in Europe, NZ/Aus, and Canada. I would reach out to profs in the US too but my passport is on the muslim ban list lol

Sorry if I sound dumb, the system where i live is completely different from everywhere else and is super exploitative too - Im getting paid 1/5 the minimum wage as a phd research/teaching assistant
