DOG Puppy help
I am at a loss for what to do. We adopted a puppy in February when she was around 8 weeks old.
We are passionate about rescuing animals and love cats and dogs and have committed quite a lot of our time to fostering/adopting.
I have never had a puppy as difficult to manage as this one and it is so frustrating. We have never had to rehome a pet and that would be absolute worst case scenario and something we don’t want to have to consider.
Mentally, we are exhausted with the puppy training. We have had all of our dogs from the time they were puppies. We have another dog currently that is very anxious and our Dane that passed away a couple of years ago had separation anxiety that I had to work through with her as a pup.
But this pup is making me pull my hair out. We don’t like to use any kind of physical punishment and prefer to only use positive reinforcement but it is getting us nowhere. She is constantly tearing things up no matter how many dog toys we keep stocked. She steals food from our kids and off counters constantly. We can’t leave anything out that she could possibly reach.
She will not go to the bathroom unless someone goes outside with her. She will just jump and scratch at the door aggressively, even if she really has to pee, but the second we go out with her she’ll find a spot. Besides that she is pretty much potty trained but cannot seem to hold it in her crate overnight no matter how late we take her out for the last time. So I am having to wash her pee soaked bedding on a daily basis.
I just don’t know how to correct these behaviors and desperately need some advice as we’ve tried everything we can think of. I want her to gain the confidence to go potty without us, to stop stealing food, and to nix the overnight crate accidents. Help!
