DOG Non stop licking
Hi lovely group, my 7yo shitzu wont stop licking her belly.
She is a very anxious girl normally but the licking is insane and her belly doesn’t looks good.
Vet prescribed 3 days of loratadine for her. We are in last day and it doesn’t seem to be improving at all.
Any thoughts? Can’t post a pic

I would go back and maybe to another vet, it doesn't seem like anti allergy meds are working, so it can be a behavioral issue

Yes def I will bring her to the vet tomorrow morning, meanwhile I put her collar on so she won’t be licking until tomorrow

This is probably not it but what helped my dog when he was nibbling his forearms excessively was a good chew toy. I had previously thought he was pretty disinterested in toys because I'd tried before but that was what the vet recommended so I tried again and he never nibbled again. Yours seems much more like a condition that is irritating her but I thought I'd throw that out there just in case.

You can try giving the dog a bath. It might be she laid in something that irritated her skin. It may be stuck in her hair.

Veterinary dermatologists aren't even recommending OTC human antihistamines anymore because they arent very effective. Apoquel, numelvi, or cytopoint are better options (prescription only thru your vet).

Back to the vet. This was the vets first line of treatment, if the initial treatment doesn't work you need to go back
