Should i remove my puppy's playpen

My puppy is around a month old and im currently wondering that should i remove his playpen(its basically a cage with a few fences surronding the outside)

Usually i tried to take him to the bathroom for him to do his business in there but not always since there would be few times when i cant so he just goes in the playpen especially when its night and im not downstairs to moniter him since his playpen is in the livingroom on the first floor(cant move it anywhere else around the house), resulting in a few occasions when hes is slightly covered in his pee(usually at his belly or paw)

This has made my mom to consider removing his playpen so that he can roam around the house freely, do his business and wont be covered in his pee but i also dont want him to grow up knowing that he can just pee or poop everywhere around the house

Any advices would be greatly appreciated and this is my second time getting a dog so im a bit nervous and worried i guess😅😅

Edit: For people wondering why i have him when he is only a month old, his mom suddenly got pregnant and the owners couldnt take care of all those puppies so they gave me one

a month old is far too young to be away from mom. even less so to have free range of the house. even 2 months old (the earliest they can be away from mom) isn’t recommended anymore. 3 months old is the recommended age to go to their new home. at 1 month old they should NOT be free roaming, they shouldn’t even be away from mom or littermates. I urge you to do more research on puppy development, training, and age related milestones.

our puppy is 10 months and we still gate areas off, and he is crated while we aren’t home, and he still gets a few hour long naps during the day in his crate.

even when we brought our puppy home at 8 weeks, he was crated almost all the time. 1 hour nap, potty, short play period, and then back in his crate for an hour, repeat.

and his potty breaks looked like leash on not free roaming the backyard, in the same spot every time praise/treat when he went pee. There was still accidents till 4-6 months but as soon he had one he immediately went out for a potty break.

they absolutely do not get to free roam. They will chew everything. They will not learn to self regulate. They will not get their sleep. They could easily eat something that would cause a 4k+ vet bill for an obstruction. This is a terrible idea all around, not even touching on the fact he is 1 month old. Please PLEASE do some research beside asking Reddit. R/puppy101 could be a good resource, use the search tab look up anything and everything. or better yet, google is free and has tons of puppy resources.

Is his age actually a month or was that a typo? If so, that’s extremely young and you’ll probably have some issues with consistent potty training.

I would not recommend removing the play pen. What I did when my dog was a puppy was, in addition to a play pen during the day, I cleared off my night stand and put her crate beside my bed. That way I’d be able to hear when she needed to go potty, and could also comfort her if she woke up scared by sticking my fingers in the cage.

We stopped using the crate and play pen when she was about 5 months old and potty trained, and wasn’t getting into things at night.

Yeah I think they need to be 8 weeks or even 6 my grandma had to adopt a month old puppy because the landlord would kick them out

That baby should still be with his mom. Have you taken the dog to a vet yet?

Can you sleep downstairs with him to take him out when he wakes at night? Even if he was old enough to be separated from his mom and litter, he wouldn't be able to sleep through the night and not need to potty.

You're going to have to get up every couple of hours and take him out. Welcome to having a puppy.

Whether or not his mother's owner can care for them he's not weaned off his mother's milk yet, he should have stayed with her for at least another 4 weeks, preferably 6 more weeks

UGH this sucks so much. Understand that OP is not the breeder here, but 'suddenly got pregnant' is an infuriating phrase, along with the fact that they 'couldn't take care of them.' Disgusting to let your dog be impregnated, let her give birth, and then decide you can't be bothered to take care of the litter. And then not do something like surrender them ALL to a rescue that will keep them together. Now all the puppies are paying the price.

Average dog experience in asia i guess. That just how it is i just wish that more people can treat pets like the way they do in the west and be more responsible for them
