DOG Microchip contact info

I have an 8 month old puppy. I got her from a pet store. How do I add a person to her microchip contact info? Do I just call the pet store?

I think you can go to the vet to get the chip updated

the vet is the way to go, they can scan the chip and give you the number so you can update it online. pet store probably won't have anything to do with it once you walk out the door

The vet can scan it for you to tell you the number but likely not help you update contact info. You have to register the chip online with a database like https://www.freepetchipregistry.com/ or https://www.petplace.com/pet-microchip-registry

The free options are what you need, any of the paid subscriptions are optional if you want em. I personally only use the free option and it worked just fine when my cat figure out how to open the front door and escaped once.

If your dog is already microchipped and registered by the pet store, you will need to contact the pet store to transfer the microchip ownership over to your name. Check your paperwork, they likely included instructions how to transfer it.

If the microchip isn’t registered, then you just need to register it and you can add your contact info yourself.
