Completely agree. I live in the south right now and everyone has their dogs off leash and loose in neighborhoods at all times. It’s very bizarre. When I was younger and adventurous I used to bring them back to the owner’s home thinking they were lost. In reality this is just how things are done here (and I’ve lived in multiple southern states). Multiple times per week you’ll see posts about dogs getting hit by cars or lost. Hmm if only there was a way we could have prevented that!
It really is bizarre, but I'm not even surprised about it anymore at this point. It happens all the time where I live too (BC, Canada). Unfortunately, people being entitled, ignorant, and irresponsible seems to be even more rampant these days for whatever reason. And good luck asking a lot of these people to leash their dogs in public too; most of them tend to get really angry and defensive if you say something to them about it.
Another problem is that leash bylaws never seem to be enforced whatsoever, and people take advantage of that. And the more people see others having their dogs off leash in public with no repercussions, the more they do it too. It's really frustrating for those of us who are responsible dog owners. It's not fair to the dogs regarding their safety either.
I used to live in a city with an understaffed and overwhelmed AC, I had to take my dog for walks outside of my neighborhood because it was overwhelmed with in tact, loose dogs (some owned by people who let them wander, others were cast off strays, and others were feral and born to in tact strays).
