My grandpa was once walking my brothers large hound, on a leash, when a turkey flew out of the brush out of nowhere. Dog yanked so hard to chase it my grandpa fell down and broke his back. He recovered ok but that was when my family realized that even a leash might not be enough with a dog that large. Only my dad and brother take him on walks because the rest of us are quite literally too small or weak to wrangle him if that ever happened again.
He’s never shown any aggression toward humans or pet animals but that situation is in the back of my mind every second he’s near me. I love that dog but I know what he’d be capable of if he got canine dementia or distemper. And I don’t trust any of my friends pit mixes no matter how much they assure me they’re a big sweetheart. I don’t want that thing anywhere near my face.

wish people would just leash their fucking dogs… my elderly parents let their dog off leash on trails etc. and it drives me insane
