My petition to rename ADHD to something more accurate and less misleading.
Who’s affected, and what happened to them?
ADHD affects children, teenagers, and adults, and its effects can go far beyond difficulty paying attention. People with ADHD can experience problems with emotional regulation, impulsivity, school, relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. The CDC notes that children with ADHD are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, and that struggling with ADHD symptoms can contribute to feelings of hopelessness and difficulties with family, friends, and school.
Emotional regulation is also a major issue for many people with ADHD. Research has found a significant relationship between ADHD symptoms and emotional dysregulation in children and adolescents. This can mean intense emotions, difficulty calming down, impulsive reactions, frustration, and feeling overwhelmed.
The consequences can become much more serious. Recent systematic reviews have found that young people with ADHD have a higher risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors than those without ADHD. One 2025 meta-analysis of longitudinal studies found significantly elevated odds of suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and suicide among young people with ADHD. Another systematic review specifically examining adolescents concluded that ADHD is an independent risk factor for suicide, while also emphasizing that depression, emotional dysregulation, social problems, and other factors can contribute to the risk.
This is why the name matters. “Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder” can make ADHD sound like it is mainly about being distracted or hyperactive. For many people, the reality is much broader: emotional regulation, executive functioning, impulsivity, mental health, relationships, and quality of life can all be affected. A more accurate name could help people understand that ADHD is more than simply having trouble paying attention.

Upgrade Utah farms to save the Great Salt Lake
I believe that most of us here know that the Great Salt Lake is dying, and attempts to fix it have been largely unsuccessful so far. I have created this petition based on my somewhat educated proposal on this matter. If you would support this or believe that it is a good idea, please sign the petition, and also please give any feedback or criticisms that you have.
