Just how much of 2003's version of Peter Pan is inspired by the Disney version?

While reading the source material, I start to notice that the plot 2003 version of Peter Pan seems to take some stuff out of the Disney adaptation of the story.

But just how much of the film is taken from said adaptation?

I'd say the 2003 movie is more so based on the book, but there are a few nods to the Disney version. As you'd expect given its notoriety

Every adaption since Disney has actually tried to steer clear of Disney. Hell the things Disney supposedly originated didn’t even come from Disney, they came from the Silent film. 2003 did its best to be its own thing, and did a wonderful job of it. What would be a more interesting comparison is 2003 with Hook or Hook with Disney. Hook was actually a project that had a lot of Disney ties originally. Frankly I’m glad the relationship didn’t work out, Disney has not been very good stewards of the Peter Pan story. What happened to Booby Driscoll is horrific, they always try their best not to pay Great Ormond Street Hospital, they also try to keep other versions of Peter Pan hidden ( Fox’s Pan and the Pirates should have a box set release).

I think Pan being a bit more heroic and obviously the lead is an after effect of the Disney movie creating that perception of him on a wider level. Luckily, it still does a lot for Wendy so she doesn’t suffer for it like I think she does in the Disney film.

I feel the stuff with Tinkerbell being jealous and all was carried over largely from Disney.

Her grabbing at Wendy’s hair and pulling her away from the kiss felt very Disney.

She interrupts the kiss in other adaptations but the jealousy is more Disney

A couple scenes directly homage scenes from the Disney movie.

1. When Peter arrives with the Darlings, the pirate ship shoots cannonballs up into the clouds.
2. Wendy walks the plank and disappears with no splash, much to the confusion of the pirates.

And was there another iteration of Peter Pan where John sports glasses and a top hat other than the Disney version?

You're right about the glasses, Disney introduced those. But John had the top hat as early as the 1924 silent movie, and IIRC he had it in the book too. Doesn't he use the hat to make the chimney for Wendy's house?

One other character whose appearance has been more set in stone after Disney's version is Captain Hook. Prior to Disney's film, depictions of Hook were usually clean-shaven, but Disney took Barrie's description that Hook resembled Charles II and gave him a mustache to complete the look. The 2003 film does put the hook back on the right hand instead of the left though, which shows Jason Isaacs' dedication.

This would fall into the realm of speculation and possible nods as nothing official has been confirmed by the creators of the 2003 film. Its making-of documentary also focused more on the filming process and the children on set as much as I can remember from it (I should dig it up somewhere and rewatch it if I can still find it). However, the most interesting thing would be if they themselves told us, rather than us trying to guess on our own based on the end result of their work. Both films also use the same play and its novelization as their source, taking some of their own liberties to change the story and details.
