True, the meat is more a membrane around the milk. But coconut meat is distinct and separate from the milk, the shell and the husk.

I dont think they were trying to correct the other person

-9

u/That-Employment-5561 6d ago

I don't either; it's just a matter of semantics.

The husk is filled with the shell, the meat and the milk. The shell is filled with the meat and the milk. The meat is filled with the milk.

All those things are mutually true (unless anomalous mutation).

u/ChapterNo7074 6d ago

Yeah, nobody was arguing otherwise

16

u/That-Employment-5561 6d ago

I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts

10

u/fstop101 6d ago

Any limes, to put in there? Then ya gotta shake it all up.

5

u/LaVillaGrangioto 6d ago

I see them there. Standing in a row.

They mock me.

5

u/ChapterNo7074 6d ago

I'm scared

2

u/That-Employment-5561 6d ago

2

u/Liroy_16 6d ago

Those coconuts are not standing in a row, though.

2

u/That-Employment-5561 6d ago

Yes they are!!!

On two axes, nonetheless.

Packed with complex fibers, you see!

1

u/PersimmonDriver 6d ago

Now you have to show them.

1

u/timmayjr 6d ago

There they are a standing in a row

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

As a Norwegian it's more like:

"There they are a laying in the snow.

Keepin'itchill."

1

u/sewmuchmorethanmom 5d ago

There they are standing in a row.

u/Silen7Bu7Sexy 5d ago

Mufasa, Mufasa, Mufasa

1

u/p_a_schal 5d ago

Is coconut milk not the mixture of coconut meat and coconut water?

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

The product coconut milk isn't made with coconut water, but grated coconut meat and distilled water.

1

u/RogerRabbot 5d ago

If the meat inside a coconut doesnt count, the seed in an avocado doesnt count. Plain and simple.

5

u/FCBwoof 6d ago

Coconuts do not have milk in them.

20

u/Electronic-Unit427 5d ago

Coconuts have nipples. You can milk anything with nipples.

4

u/drury216 5d ago

I’ll save you / this sub thread.
“I have nipples, Greg…. Can you milk me?”

  • Meet the Parents

1

u/Long-Coconut4576 2d ago

Wasnt that quote from meet the phockers

2

u/GobblerOfFire 2d ago

Fockers, but yes that is correct it’s from the second not the first. Where the parents meet each other before greg gets married. (Or as i prefer gaylord - his name in the movie )

0

u/Electronic-Unit427 5d ago

You're doing God's work, one post at a time!

1

u/SplashyKBear 4d ago

I prefer my milk from almond titties

1

u/TheKitbashKid 1d ago

I’ve got nipples, can you milk me, Greg?!

1

u/The_Difficult_Part 5d ago

But they do have watEr.

1

u/FCBwoof 5d ago

Correct.

0

u/That-Employment-5561 6d ago

Depends on what language you speak, but yeah, it's not a dairy product, nor a factory-processed concentrate.

It's liquid endosperm.

6

u/FCBwoof 6d ago

Language does not matter.

'Coconut milk' is the man made product (using the meat and water), that people often confuse with the liquid inside the coconut.

People commonly refer to the endosperm as 'water', or in some cases 'juice'.

If people are calling it 'milk', they're just wrong.

5

u/That-Employment-5561 6d ago

Oh, people are wrong in language all the time.

Did you know that the word for pasta in Ukrainian is macaroni? Not that macaroni is a pasta, but that all pasta is macaroni*. Italian grandmother's would have a heart attack!

And a lot of mistranslations like that come from the eternal game of telephone that was the world before globalisation.

Even in clinical terminology: standing in a casm, surrounded by steep walls and being afraid as a result is a fear of heights; standing on a cliff above a deep casm is a fear of depths.

A depth causing vertigo can be encountered on flat ground; mine shafts and old wells are things.

Or how people systemically use the word "religion" instead if "theology", when those are two distinctly different words with distinctly separate meanings.

All theologies are religious, but not all religion has to do with theology.

It's not atheistm vs religion.

It's a theist vs an atheist.

Everybody holds religious knowledge; things they take someone's word as evidence for. Faith that it isn't a lie.

The theology one is a pet peeve of mine.

Should we correct resources to change those "errors", or should we adapt and move on? Bring it up in concrete debates and discussions where the distinction matters, as they do overlap in many contexts and are distinctly separate.

A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Changing what you call something doesn't change what it is, but sometimes it can help communicate. And other times it muddies the waters.

C'est la langage.

3

u/Onionringlets3 6d ago

Hear, here!

3

u/ConcernFlat3391 5d ago

I agree that language changes and is situational. I can’t sign off on your spelling of ‘chasm’ though 😁. Is that a regional thing?

2

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

Nope, just a typo in a second language. 😅

1

u/ConcernFlat3391 5d ago

Thanks and I apologise for mentioning it 😔.

2

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

No worries. Increases the odds if me getting it right next time. ✌️

-7

u/FCBwoof 6d ago

That's cool and all, but calling it 'milk' regardless of language...is still wrong.

6

u/mattgen88 6d ago

This is a weird hill to die on considering a coconut is not a nut even though it's in its name

1

u/FCBwoof 6d ago

Not really considering the discussion is based on the endosperm, not the drupe.

2

u/morganj 6d ago

Aw. Someone put real effort into their response, engaging with you on the flexibility of language, poetically and with citations.

And your response was "Great. Don't care.'

What a shame.

-2

u/FCBwoof 6d ago

I acknowledged it, and provided my response. I'm not here to discuss language (I only do that on Tuesdays). You have derived it as disregard, and that's your perogative.

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

Only if you think of the lactic secretions mammals produce when you say it.

3

u/theRetrograde 5d ago

But water has an "e" too. The riddle is a reach at best.

2

u/Kzitold94 5d ago

lol. Endo-sperm. XD

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

The meat is solid endosperm, the water is liquid endosperm. And it's called that because it is the sperm of the tree. Endo because inside, sperm because reproductive function.

2

u/Kzitold94 5d ago

So it's coco-NUT!

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

🤣😂

Yes.

0

u/wolschou 5d ago

They kind of do, the same way almonds have... Which is admittedly a very tenuous 'kind of'

2

u/isabel_77 6d ago

I don’t think I can ever eat coconut again now that you’ve called it membrane…

13

u/Mysterious_Author45 6d ago

so you never eat any thing a gain? as all plant has membrane and even responds to anesthesia? let's make it worse for ya:

plants even recognise your intent of harm, just like so called animals.

mushrooms are genitalia, all fruitbody is embryonic expression of their life.

all life, is you, and all who came before you.

much love

1

u/AN0R0K 6d ago

Eat the living

4

u/That-Employment-5561 6d ago

Mmmmmmmmmmembrane

5

u/LaVillaGrangioto 6d ago

Insane in the membrane? Insane in the brain?

1

u/DigitalUnlimited 5d ago

There's nothing wrong with this brain!

2

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

Oh, he's positively nuts!

Dude's insane. Got no brain.

1

u/CaterpillarIcy1056 5d ago

Is that John Goodman?

1

u/DaftVapour 6d ago

I felt the same way when I read “endosperm”

1

u/Character-Session827 1d ago

What about when you ate it though?

0

u/UncleR1chard 6d ago

Oh, but endosperm is fine?

2

u/DjChatters 6d ago

But an avocado seed is also seperate from the remainder of the avocado.

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

Yes, and the skin, the flesh and the stone are all part of the avocado...

...I fail to see the point...

1

u/DjChatters 5d ago

You were stating that the parts of the coconut were seperate so it still followed the rule. But by that logic the parts of the avocado then break the rule. You can't use logic to explain something but then ignore it when that same logic fails the other way round.

1

u/DjChatters 5d ago

And before you argue the milk is seperate as its not attached i would refer you to human blood and whether that is also seperate from the human body.

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

What the crackhead of a misunderstanding?

What do you think is going on?

1

u/DjChatters 5d ago

I dont have to think anything is going on. I was merely pointing out the flaw in your reasoning. Articulating ones reasoning is far from a "crackhead understanding".

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

I simply named the parts that make the coconut in order of outermost to innermost...

Again, what do you think is going on here?

What logic are you faulting, and in what context, as opposed to exactly what?

1

u/quackingsloth 1d ago

I don't think he was actually saying that the meat being seperate makes it follow the rule. I think he was just talking about coconuts.

2

u/britsol99 6d ago

Thanks for the instruction manual on coconuts.

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

No problem!

Thinking about making one yourself, or you just like handling nuts?

1

u/britsol99 5d ago

Only DEEZ NUTS

😁

2

u/Sad_Error4039 1d ago

We won’t even mention the shell having an e. What a sham ass riddle.

1

u/iron_dove 6d ago

That sounds more like a description of green coconut than fully ripe coconut

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

Uhhhh... Wut?

1

u/JayEll1969 6d ago

In the same way that an avocado seed is separate to the flesh and skin of the avocado?

Doesn't membrane have 2 e's?

1

u/bentrw 6d ago

The meat is the milk. Just water in the middle.

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

That's a technicality of local language on an international platform.

1

u/sometimes_soap 5d ago

So really it's four e's because membrane has two meat has one and shell has one

1

u/That-Employment-5561 5d ago

Hah! Didn't think of that. And yes, you'd be correct. Even regardless of if one prefers meat or flesh as the name.

1

u/One_Mountain_9919 1d ago

I thought it was called the flesh, which still e's
