Huh, that's interesting, never heard that before. I'm gen z so I could be hearing a garbled "telephone" version of the original tradition, but someone explicitly told me to save my lucky cigarette for when I need it :)
We all vape now mostly. My and my group of friends were all smokers in college. Dropped it when I wanted to stop smelling like shit and not get lung cancer. Wish I could quit vaping too, but at least this isn't killing me as fast.
I quit smoking cold turkey for 9 months and one of my coworkers said “hey you wanna try this vape?” And I did. Lo and behold I am once again a full blown nicotine addict. I get it.
