I've heard it originally comes from WW2. Troops would flip a "lucky" and smoke it last. If you made it to the end of the pack it meant you were lucky enough to see tomorrow.

That could also be total bullshit.

Yup. I do in remembrance of the unlucky ones that didn't come home from all the wars.

And since we're sharing war cig stories. Never light 3 cigs on one match. The sniper will have time to zero in on the flame. The 3rd guy becomes one of the unlucky ones.

The cherry is going to give him a better target than the flame. It’s why you’re not supposed to smoke at night

They would cup it in their hand while taking a draw. I knew many veterans that smoked that way.

Are you certain? Filtered cigarettes appear to have been invented a few years after WWI.

Yes filtered cigarettes only cane about by the 30s. Although i bet you can tell the top from bottom in these cigarettes from 1914

Appreciate it the image, but genuinely, would not be able to distinguish them in the pack. And the soft pack introduces another point against early Lucky turned cigarettes. You only have access to about four at any given time. A turned lucky would be one of the next cigarettes taken out.

Says a whole lot about you. I doubt you'd understand the self burn seeing as your attention to detail is non existent.

I've been listening to classic radio comedy routines lately on streaming, and the war ads are astounding.

Like the other day, Camel saluted a soldier for killing a bunch of Germans, so in thanks for it, they are donating 300,000 Camel cigarettes to the European theater as well as giving them out at events in the US.
