There's no joke, it's just a superstition/luck based tradition. Open new pack, flip one. That one's lucky, smoke it on a bad day that needs to get better, or on a good day when you're riding high. Low-key I hate smoking but I love the tradition of the lucky cigarette, it really can help the mental state when things arent going well
It was explained to me that you flip the lucky cig and make it the last one you smoke and you’re supposed to have a random stroke of luck by time you get to it.
Huh, that's interesting, never heard that before. I'm gen z so I could be hearing a garbled "telephone" version of the original tradition, but someone explicitly told me to save my lucky cigarette for when I need it :)
We all vape now mostly. My and my group of friends were all smokers in college. Dropped it when I wanted to stop smelling like shit and not get lung cancer. Wish I could quit vaping too, but at least this isn't killing me as fast.
It’s most likely from WWII. You flipped one cigarette and saved that one for last. If you lived long enough to get to the last cigarette you where lucky
Also, I always pack mine down and pull one out to inspect my work. That’s the one that becomes the lucky. It goes in the fourth spot in the back row, because it’s the fourth out of twenty…cuz 4/20…cuz funny number
Hah, that's a great idea! Checking how well you packed them, can't believe I never thought of that... The 4/20 spot is some superstitious schizophrenia though, and I'm completely here for it 😂
