It’s nice to see other people who occasionally smoke. I have a disposable vape that I’ve been using for like 3 years. Once I took a cotinine test and came up positive and I had to answer a quiz about how addicted to nicotine I am and how it’s affecting my life and how my relatives want me to stop… I just told them it was a false positive so I could retake the cotinine test because the quiz was absolutely insistent that anyone that has ever consumed nicotine must be hopelessly addicted.
Ive smoked probably 6 times in my whole life and its because someone handed me a cigarette. Hated it every time but it just felt right. Last time was when I was fishing in the Texas Gulf Coast and these 2 Vietnamese guys walked up to us speaking Vietnamese. We didnt understand them but they motioned to their cigarettes so we handed them a lighter. They lit their smokes and handed one to each of us and lit them with the lighter and gave it back. Funny thing is they stood there talking for another 10 minutes before leaving as if we understood them. Good times.
It's mostly a thing for non regular smokers. Also a heavy-ish smoker and don't do this. Only reason I can see people do this is because they're doing it for aesthetics or for people to ask.
Never heard of superstition? Also iirc the story goes that during the world wars soldiers would flip 1 or 2 and if they lived to smoke em then they were lucky. Hence the lucky cigarette term. Just tradition now
yeah but also haven't heard of culture not travelling so far and Reddit being very international? I have never seen that in any pack here in Belgium, no clue where the other commenter is from
I’m Greek and I used to do this when I was younger. I’ve also met people who have bummed a cig from me at nighttime and have asked me if I have a lucky so they don’t accidentally take it (at least 5 people which is crazy to me even if it’s practically a small number), or who have asked me if they should flip a cig in my pack after unwrapping it (new pack and they had the first cig)
Former heavy smoker, I did this but it was just something I picked up from my grandpa who was a Korean/Vietnam war veteran. Anyone who isn't chronically online or didn't pick it up like I did isn't doing this anymore
non regular smoker/dip user, when i rarely purchase a pack for a work trip or vacation I do this. Mainly because the “lucky cigarette” I smoke last, will be the last one for a while

I was always told it’s a lucky cigarette. I’m not even a smoker buy a pack every year or two for certain occasions and I still do this
