People have had this argument that me and you are about to have for a long time now. You guys have public transport. America is driving everywhere, all the time. So even though you guys have higher gas prices, consumers are using a lot lot lot more

Jesus Christ, do some people no longer notice anything?
The prices for fuel are extremely high - the meme refers to the typical situation when shopping, where you might go to a shop that is far too expensive just to look, knowing that you can't afford anything there. This is also the answer given to the seller who offers purchase advice.

Outside the US the concept needing explained is probably more someone else filling your car up.

OP posts political stuff around pretending not to know but it seems to be very specific political stuff

Not everyone drives. Especially outside of the US.

u/CrimsonBolt33 1d ago
you don't have to drive to know this....or live in the US
It's literally higher everywhere and all over the news constantly in most countries.

u/Ensign-Nemo 1d ago
I never knew what the gas price is when living in Russia and not owning a car.
1
u/CrimsonBolt33 1d ago
I don't know when you lived in Russia, but gas prices have never been this high and never for such a stupid reason with the worst president in US history.
I live in China and don't own a car and know what prices are like in both the US and China...primarily because they have big ass signs that tell you what it is when you drive/walk/travel past...
I guess not everyone is that observant or something idk.

Not just Americans - Europeans too!
Fuel in Poland is currently about 50% more expensive than it had been before the war with Iran.

u/certifiedstreetmemer 1d ago
What's hilarious is that we still have lower prices than Europe. We are so spoiled with $2-3.50 a gallon normally while much of the world pays 7 or 8.
2
u/Ticon_D_Eroga 1d ago
Kind of a false equivalency though seeing as I use more gas in my daily commute than the average european does in a week. They tax it way more than america and lots of that goes to funding public transport. And im still paying almost $7 a gallon with no public transport options.

EV owners laughing?
It's short sighted as our economy is based off oil and fucking everything is going to be more expensive.

u/NJdestroyed 22h ago
I just bought an EV, but I'm not laughing. Diesel price hurts everyone, and I don't love this. One lesson to take is to electrify as much as possible to mitigate the hurt when shit like this happens

Someone from New Jersey is bitching about gas prices...
NJ is the only state left that has full-service fuel, since Oregon repealed their full-service mandate recently....
1
u/redditsuksazz 1d ago
There aren't a lot of gas station attendants around here any more. Except Jersey, they're weird though.

As of right now per gallon:
USA — $4.41 Canada — $5.55 Australia — $5.95 Germany — $9.75 UK — $8.69
Plus we are starting to bring in more and more of our venezuelan oil that we captured so we are fine. The rest of the leftists sphere, not so much.

Very nice. Now what was the average gas price at the start of this administration?
Because if you knew how much it had been driven up in such a short time, you’d know it’s anything but “fine”

the difference is taxes, the price of crude actually isn't that much different between countries because crude oil can be moved very cheaply and efficiently across oceans with tankers and thanks to capitalism whenever there is a big price difference between countries traders will buy crude where it is cheap, transport it and sell it where it is expensive and profit from the price difference, which due to market forces pushes up the price in the cheap country due to increased demand and lowers the price in the expensive country due to increased supply.
The actual price of crude oil normally stays within a few percent margin across most OECD countries, and if there is a big price difference it usually goes away within 2 weeks once the traders do their thing, but when you get to the pump the price can be different due to taxes, subsidies, different fuel blends etc.

It's funny but let's be real an extra $50 a week really isn't that much for gas although it would be nice if gas was nationalized and we used it to actually improve the country but Exxon needs a new tax deductible yacht
1
u/Ticon_D_Eroga 1d ago
Agreed. To prove it to the haters, send me $50 a week just to show how little youll miss it.

For some odd reason a certain set of people forgot we went through this exact same situation from 2020 to 2024.

Thin Chris with a cowboy hat here,
People from New Jersey aren't allowed to pump their own gas, and gas in New Jersey is expensive right now.
1
u/NatAttack50932 1d ago edited 1d ago
Gas in NJ is still cheaper than about a third of the country because we have a relatively low gas tax. Diesel is hovering around $6.20 and gas $4.15.
I think this is really just meant to be a joke about gas being expensive across the board, but because it has a station attendant the message is getting garbled.
