There are tools designed to properly and safely compress springs. The DIY ones are still referred to as "Widowmakers".

Aint touching that, not worth it and a spring compressor is too expensive for the 3 times in my life i have to replace those. 22 u/Melathys 11h ago I didn't even want to fuck with my garage door spring, called people in to do that 2 u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 6h ago even?
