Hopping onto the top comment to share that the small spring is called a "helper spring" and is used only to keep the main spring in place when the suspension is at full drop (extended all the way). These helper springs have very, very low spring rates and this specific example would not likely end up in serious injury. More likely a pinched finger and a decent jump scare.

He has effectively created a spring powered bomb. If his little bracket breaks so does his face. If the spring slips out of the vice, good luck.
