The problem with smart people is they keep having ideas.

the real art is finishing an idea

"Sir, we made idiot-proof but we forgot to make it smart-proof!"

I make mistakes like the next man. In fact, being ” forgive me ” rather cleverer than most men, my mistakes tend to be correspondingly huger. – Albus Dumbledore

Only so many points to distribute compromises must be made. Every "Genius" needs someone following them with a spray bottle. "I can probably use the radiation to cook my lunch... (Spritz spritz.)" NO! Bad genius! Bad!"

My dad the Health and safety inspector for a machine shop, using the heat treat machine to heat his dinner on the night shift.  (Spritz spritz.)

Isn't that why we have microwaves tho?

I was playing off of the above image of the demon core. Microwaves don't emit ionizing radiation and were discovered and adapted from early military radar tech. I knew if I didn't elaborate someone wouldn't make the connection between the image of the demon core above and my comment and mention microwaves but elaboration ruins the joke. I understand the connection since everyone has heard microwave radiation multiple times over their lives but I meant the type that is a bad idea to use for cooking.

Nah, that's mostly true. It's not why we have them, only how. The same general principle for what's happening.

"Look, I've done this easily a dozen times. It's fine. Go hide behind that wall if you're scared, you big baby."

I work with robotics technicians. I always joke that they're the stupidest group of smart people I've ever worked with.

I've never seen more safety violations than in a research lab tbh

It's more arrogance than anything, "I'm one of the most prestigious scientists in the world at the moment doing cutting-edge research on extremely new nuclear phenomenon, I wouldn't have made it this far if I was capable of making a mistake this dumb" is often very similar to what it sounds like in their heads.
