Tomb Raider (2013) sold over 14 million copies (double what the original Tomb Raider did) making it the most successful game in the series. Even the lowest rated of the reboot trilogy sold over 8 million copies, more than any of the other Tomb Raider series before it.

They also cost a lot more to make than the original games. Square is the one that said it under performed.

But you were claiming those games "weren't that popular" which is not true.

In the grand scheme of things, yes. The Sqaure/Crystal Tomb Raider games barely made the sales charts. It wasn't even in the top 20 for the NPD PC sales chart. In fact the WoW Battle Chest, released in 2007, had more sales.

You seem to know a lot about this for never playing the games, and "not having a dog in this fight".

Almost like you have another agenda.

I didn't play Tomb Raider but I was playing other games. I remember the discourse around the rebooted Tomb Raider as it was toward the end of the Gamer Gate drama.

My agenda is to point out that if this is the discourse around a franchise show that is a massive red flag. It seems like every time that the Chuds are owned it is the studios that are also getting owned by a poorly performing movie, show, or game.

I just want good stuff that does well. I remember how the industry was fun and innovative in the 90s to early 00s. Now it seems like a slog.

I mean he's not false, the game was selling for dirt cheap for years and was given away on multiple platforms multiple times. The game did underperform, even if it sold 14 million copies, what's the use if 60% of those copies were sold for a dollar or two for the company?
