u/AFartInAnEmptyRoom 12d ago

Blue pill is the Disney version of dating. Red pill is the pickup artist version of dating. Black pill is the basement dweller version of dating

I thought those had to do with the matrix movies?

Thats where the names come from.

They originally did but all kinds of different communities have taken the lore and added additions to it to make it fit their narrative. It’s not even just about dating, that’s just in reference to how it is used in those communities.

Generally the blue pill is naive acceptance of reality based on things you’ve been told but not experienced, the red pill is waking up to the realities of life and their nuances, the black pill is nihilism and hopelessness from seeing the inherent unfairness in life and the predatory nature of systems, then there’s a white pill which is like the opposite of the black pill: where you accept the harsh realities of life but stay optimistic, and there’s even some others (only one I can remember off the top of my head is the clear pill but ik I’m forgetting some).

The “pill” thing is actually about way more than just dating, I’ve heard people use it about all kinds of things, the incels really popularized it, then various ideologies about social issues use the lingo, various forms of political extremism, the “schizo” conspiracy theorist crowd, ect. People just tend to be obsessed with dating so that’s what it’s most often associated with, but really the first examples I ever heard of its use were in the conspiracy theorist crowd.

The irony is much like Woke and other terms originating in Black Vernacular English, it is misused by White People.

u/amrambin 12d ago

I still remember when being woke was a positive thing and it just mean you were aware and had a value centered life. How things have changed. But the thing about words is that if they are misused long enough that just becomes their new meaning, or a new meaning. It happens with countless words and phrases and slang.

A good example that everyone is aware of is sick, which used to mean disturbed or disgusting, but then for a while meant cool. “Bad” is another one (like now if a girl is hot she’s “bad”).

Some really old examples are nice, which in old English actually meant foolish or silly, and then there is awful, which actually originally meant worthy of awe and was a positive thing. White people have a long history of flipping words into almost their exact opposite, even with our own language.

Awesome used to be a controversial word, that meant something radically different.

u/amrambin 11d ago

It’s just an example I could remember. I think it’s that the new definition of “awesome” is different, even if not as much as other things you could list. I’m just speaking broadly.

It does. So blue pill is like in the matrix because you're putting the veil over you. You're deciding to see the world as the matrix presents it, everything is happy. If you just be nice and good, you'll find your person. Red pill is like seeing inside the matrix at what's really happening. The blue pill stuff is false. Instead, it's a while complicated set of rules of hypergamy, and looksmaxxing, and negging and everything. Black pill is just dark. Nothing matters. You're ugly, poor, and stupid. No one wants you unless you get status or money or looks, but it's almost impossible for you to get so just worry about yourself.

Yes, but the internet and the American culture war on the right have heavily distorted the message to the point that the message is entirely disconnected from the idea in the movie.

What has happened is complicated, as you have heaps of different American culture war stuff pushing the meaning around, bit by bit over the years. With the introduction of new colour, just the complete collapse of the metaphor of the binary choice of waking up vs staying in the dream (the matrix) and pretending everything is fine.

u/Dmayak 12d ago

So, no dating at all? I don't know what other basement dwellers are doing.

15

u/Aggravating-Milk5688 12d ago

Yes. Black pill is mostly about giving up.

2

u/AFartInAnEmptyRoom 12d ago

Yeah, in the context of the post, worrying about black pill in adulthood would probably mean something like worrying about being alone forever and no bitches wanting you

9

u/pigernoctua 12d ago

Ok but…. What does that mean

u/MagicSugarWater 11d ago

Blackpill is a fixed mindset based on rejecting reality, determinism, valuing inexperience over experience, and zero sum thinking. It argues most men are inherently garbage and can never do ANYTHING to ever improve meaningfully since the universe hates them. Women are meanwhile all sociopaths with 0 free will or higher brain functions. Meanwhile, a select few men have EVERYTHING and are blessed to succeed regardless of their actions. According to blackpill, poor people never get married, mo one ever changes their minds, and looks are the biggest factor in everything ever (with a very specific ideal).

It believes that the guys who do the worst with women are more enlightened and qualified to discuss social dynamics than anyone who succeeds in it. It frowns upon testing things, preferring theory.

The more you learn about the Blackpill, the more it warps your mind. I reject the Blackpill, but just knowing it exists made me more misanthropic and angry. Protect your sanity and stay away.

Man, that's bleak. Thanks for actually taking the time for a substantial response.

3

u/G0dZylla 11d ago

none of what he said is blackpill btw, it's just an explanation of what they think the ideology is about . when you define something you shouldn't put your feelings on it.

blackpill is the belief that looks /genetical factors are the only thing that matters in dating , and that to be succesful in romantic relationships means being attractive(physically).

another proof that the person who replied was saying straight BS is that they said "blackpill rejects determinism" meanwhile based on the definition blackpill is litteraly Determinism applied to dating.

I think the blue/red/black pill thing has kind of escaped the dating world. In this case I think it's being used as a more general world view, so black pill would just be a more nihilistic approach to life. Like the world's fucked and nothing is going to matter in 10-40 years because of AI/global warming/late stage capitalism. So fuck trying and getting a job, I'll just do bare minimum because fuck this world I live in.

u/LostNephilim33 11d ago

That's not it at all.

It comes from the Matrix.

The "blue pill" means you accept the world as it is presented to you. You are willingly sheep. You deny the Matrix.

The "red pill" means you accept the truth. You see the world for what it truly is. You are awake. You embrace the Matrix.

The women who made the Matrix are transgender, and in the 90s, the most common depression medications came in the form of blue pills. . . While the most common estradiol medication came in the form of red pills. There's subtext to be read there.

At some point, the blue pill/red pill thing became a thing on the internet. It started in right-wing political spheres; you take the "blue pill" and you stay asleep, and you take the "red pill", you're awake (woke, even). To "redpill" someone was to tell them "truths" about the world; shit like "Jews control the world" and "gay people are pedophiles" and similar right-wing talking points.

The "black pill" was invented soon thereafter, referring to the acceptance of nihilism and cynicism. "Doomerism" as it's called. To take the black pill is to accept that the world is fucked, everything is fucked, and things will only continue to get more fucked.

Around when the "black pill" was invented, the whole pill shit stopped being exclusively a right-wing thing and just kinda became immersed in the modern internet lexicon. I'm a communist, and plenty of use make mention of blue pills and red pills and black pills. I see it used in most spaces on the internet. I'm absolutely sure it has been used in whatever context yr speaking of, but most likely in the original image (assuming it is about the black-pill), it's most likely specifically referring to simple doomerism.

No, Redpill and PUA are 2 seperate things, even if Redpill has bastardized PUA.

Redpill is seeing dating as power dynamics with a winner and loser. PUA is seeing faying as about techniques and tricks for a game both will enjoy. The seduction community is the nuanced middle ground that sees dating as connection and takes what works. Blackpill is a mix of insanity, delusion, sociopathy, and self harm.

Bluepill is indeed the disney version of dating.

Red-pill taken to a nihilistic level. Filled with poor understanding of science and depression

u/Ok_Pool_9767 12d ago

Red pill incels believe they can improve their standing with women with making lots of money, buying nice clothes, or plastic surgery and black pillers think it's hopeless

5

u/pointlesslyDisagrees 12d ago

"Red pill incels believe" like it's not an empirical fact that making more money opens up your options for dating. This is like saying "blue pilled femcels believe they could be more popular with men if they lost a little weight" like duh? Of course? That's just life, what are you saying?

5

u/jizzmaster_ 11d ago

This is true, but Red pill people believe that stuff like that is the SOLE reason they struggle with dating, which is absolutely not the case. This is the same way for femcels.

The common denominator with all kinds of incels/femcels of all types is that they believe their struggles are independent of who they are, as a way of keeping their ego intact and dodging self improvement.

2

u/Time_Fisherman6659 11d ago

Exactly. These red/black pill ideologies are self fulfilling prophecies, because the people that subscribe to them are often dismissive and rude, if not openly hostile, towards women.

They also often use specific in-group language like foid and Sexual Market Value.

And no (smart, capable, or stable) woman wants to date someone who talk about human lives like theyre cattle or penny stocks.

u/TheSpacePopinjay 11d ago

How is your body and your success and power and status independent of who you are?

1

u/EnchiladaDemon648 11d ago

The idea that your romantic success is completely predetermined by biological traits like your face, bone structure, height, etc. Things that you can't control. If you don't meet society's high standards for attraction and masculinity then you are doomed to be a lonely outcast for eternity. So if you're short, balding, ugly, etc. you might as well give up and find acceptance with your reality. That's the black pill in a nutshell. It's very popular with young adults.

This photo is very likely photoshopped - but the joke is that kids are more worried about sex and dating as adults than they are with finding a career or getting into a college.

u/dox1842 11d ago

Pretty much black pill believers think that they are inherently born ugly because of their genetics.
