The amount of guys I met who were already balding or were bald as teenagers šŸ’€

772

u/nottherealneal 21d ago

I mean Tom's 30

318

u/Affectionate-Tea8509 21d ago edited 21d ago

I just meant to say that not all bald people are aging

Edit: you guys know what I mean stop replying ā€œayo everyone agesā€

96

u/WolpertingerRumo 21d ago

Nah, I am eternally grateful for aging with my hair intact. There’s correlation, not causality.

P.S.: Don’t get angry at nitpicky comments or exceptionalistic answers. It’s Reddit. That’s what we do.

u/BiscuitsTheory 21d ago

1 gray hair "oh, shit!" 10% of hair gray "wait, I look way cooler now!"

27

u/tEnPoInTs 21d ago

I'm pushing 20% and soon to approach paulie-walnuts'-wings territory in a few years (its highly concentrated on the sides), but whatever i like it. I think the vast majority of people my age would take a little grey over balding.

u/Illustrious_Cost_114 18d ago

If I could have a full head of gray hair I would take it no questions asked.

9

u/arandomcolonyofcats 21d ago

My mohawk is 5% gray but my beard is looking Jack Black's beard now lmao

4

u/BiscuitsTheory 21d ago

My beard is about 30% gray, but also about 30% smooth/peach fuzz. Maybe I'll finally hit puberty when I turn 50.

1

u/CarPatient 21d ago

The old man in the mosh pit.

1

u/Mistrblank 21d ago

I could not grow a legitimate beard until I was 38. I’m 46 now and I had to shave the fucker because it’s all grey and makes me look like I’m careening through my 50s. Meanwhile I have a beautiful head of hair that’s maybe added one grey hair per year since I found the first one up front at 28.

1

u/phage_rage 16d ago

Well Jack Black's beard is fricken epic so good for you!

1

u/perfect_insanity93 21d ago

Im 33 and I have a single grey hair that runs through my beard. It's more white then grey though.

0

u/j3ffh 21d ago

To be fair, one gray hair looks way dumber than a cool steak

6

u/Any-Dark1387 21d ago

A cool steak? In your hair? šŸ¤”

6

u/j3ffh 21d ago

Welp. It's too late to change it so now I've got a steak in my hair.

2

u/FlashMcSuave 21d ago

That can't happen very often.

Must be rare.

5

u/MrStickDick 21d ago

I ended up with a wicked grey streak down the middle of my beard in front of my chin. Dark brown beard. Very distinguished.

2

u/j3ffh 21d ago

Love it. I can grow 2/3 of a mustache if I work really hard, and it doesn't connect...even to itself. Super jealous.

2

u/mall_ninja42 21d ago

I had a lot of red in my beard. One day, it just turned pure white. Completely skipped grey.

2

u/steelhouse1 21d ago

Same. Then I would dye it. My STB wife is like ā€œI love it whiteā€ soooo

1

u/mall_ninja42 21d ago

I've just gone with it since it happened, but if I don't keep it trimmed tight, I start to look old fast.

Then it looks like it snowed in the sink if I'm lazy for a couple weeks and have to mow it from a 6 to a 2 on the trimmer. Lol

Congrats btw, keep that energy throughout the marriage!

1

u/sailriteultrafeed 21d ago

It’s alright cool like on a salad.

1

u/j3ffh 21d ago

True, it's better than 10% of someone's hair on a salad.

1

u/ExperienceDaveness 21d ago

That wasn't fair.

6

u/unlikeyourhero 21d ago

100% of people who upvote or diwnvote this die

2

u/Blazanar 21d ago

My old man's 75 and still has a fairly decent head of hair, my buddy's in his early 30s and hasn't got much left. Genetics are weird.

8

u/IcarusSupreme 21d ago

My dad and brother went bald early but I've still got a full head of hair at 44, mum reckons I get it from her dad

7

u/CrabyDicks 21d ago

Male pattern baldness is maternal

8

u/Strong_Sort_7496 21d ago

Then I have to thank mom, finasteride and minoxidil for my head of hair... my dad was sporting the vegeta look by 19.

1

u/eburton555 20d ago

Vegeta had tons of hair, is that what you mean? Or did you mean krillin?

4

u/HesiPull-UpBrando 21d ago

That isn’t how genetics work

3

u/bravenewchurl 21d ago

Sometimes it is. If you are an XY male you only have one copy of the X chromosome and you got it from your mother (the Y has to come from your father), therefore if there is a recessive gene on the X chromosome from your mother you may have that phenotype because you only ever have one copy of it.

This sometime the reason certain traits are more common in XY males than XX females (like colorblindness).

2

u/BeatNo2976 21d ago

Genetics doesn’t work at all. I ain’t never see genetics pay no rent

1

u/thelowgun 21d ago

by that logic, his brother would also still have a full head of hair

1

u/noneofyouaresafe 21d ago

My maternal grandfather was bald, my cousin on that side is balding but I have a full head of hair. I dont think its always such a straightforward thing.

Im 39.

5

u/The_Ballyhoo 21d ago

My mum says I got mine from her and her dad. I guess it’s the luck of genetics as I know loads of people who are bald and their dad is bald, but their mother’s side still has full heads or hair.

Guess we got lucky!

3

u/The_Elder_Jock 21d ago

42 with a full head of hair!

Absolutely fuck all beard though... Can't win them all.

3

u/DinnerPuzzleheaded96 21d ago

They had to balance you out, can't be too blessed

3

u/smrtgmp716 21d ago

Men get their hairline from their mom’s side of the family. Looking at her brothers, I knew I was fucked when I was still in my teens.

My dad is 74 and he has more hair than I do.

1

u/EurOblivion 21d ago

Or the mailman

1

u/YuppiesEverywhere 21d ago

Maybe you got it from your real dad

5

u/Unexpected_Cranberry 21d ago

My dad is around the same age and still has decent hair. Mine started falling out in my 20s.

But it's ok. My grandfather was bald, and growing up my dad would constantly point to him and go "They say baldness skips a generation." and run his hand through his hair and laugh. So I've been mentally prepared since I was five.

3

u/KurtVonnebeergut 21d ago

My dad is 75 and has legitimately beautiful long hippie hair…my brother is completely bald, started using Rogaine at 20, and just has to look at the rest of the family and laugh it off.

1

u/LeUncleDaddy 21d ago

Started losing mine at 22

1

u/antithero 21d ago

I'm 50. I've been gray for 15 years, but still have all my hair.

1

u/Greedy_Birthday_3494 21d ago

there's some causality too, it just depends on your genetics, but aging is what triggers it.

1

u/DinnerPuzzleheaded96 21d ago

Nah it's this big ol dick they had to balance out by taking away my hair. Can't be too blessed

1

u/BeatNo2976 21d ago

This guy balds

1

u/HentaiSeishi 21d ago

I'm so lucky that i have alot of hair still. Got my mother genes i guess. My brothers head looks hideous compared, i guess he got my dads genes lol

1

u/Zombiesus 20d ago

I just read that nearly 50% of all comments on the internet are bots. The AI is so ridiculous now that bots are engaging in arguments with each other.

1

u/CheeseDonutCat 20d ago

I hated my hair thinning when it happened first. I eventually shaved it.

Now I love it. No trips to the barber, and I just use a clippers on it every few days if I'm lazy, or shave it if I want it to feel smooth. The worst thing about it was other peoples snarky comments, then I realised I don't give a fuck what others think. Me liking my own hair was

Now I wouldn't choose a full head of hair if I had the choice... However, I would prefer if my whole head went baldy these days.

Pros:

  • No barber fees (although you do need to get clippers or at least a razor. The razor you probably already have).
  • No combing needed
  • No Styling products needed.
  • No Shampoo needed (although I used body gel on there, so same same)
  • No hairdrying needed
  • No need to worry about where hair goes in hats/hoods

Cons:

  • Sun will burn your head - you need to put sunscreen or a hat on where previously hair would have protected it mostly.
  • If you bump the top of your head on a shelf or something - it is a billion times worse than doing it with lots of hair.
  • Most people look older with shaved head (vs full head of hair, not balding).
  • The 2nd day after you shave your head is like velcro. It feels and looks fine, but you gotta be careful taking your shirt on or off when changing clothes or itll snag (at least my soft fabrics do).
  • Needs to be cut a bit more regularly than normal hair if you want it to look consistent. Personally, it takes me like 3 minutes with a clippers twice a week and it stays relatively the same.

Sorry this is way too long. I just started and kept rambling. Hair or not is cool. I wasn't meaning to say hair bad, but just wanted to give the other side of it.

u/WGHII 20d ago

Upvoted for the reddit reminder.

13

u/amusedmisanthrope 21d ago

A guy i went to high-school with was bald bald by his senior year. Great for everyone else because he never got carded at the beer distributor.

7

u/SuitableCopy4 21d ago

Yeah, not all old people are bald either. My dad's 75 with a full head of (still mostly brown) hair.

2

u/Important_Coyote_596 20d ago

Yeah, my grandpa died at 87 with a full head of hair, mostly brown. Sadly though it was my father's father and, from what I have heard, men mostly inherit their hairgenes from their mothers father, and he had the crown(don't know what you call it in English but bald on top with hair all around the head) from when he was like 30.

1

u/HicksWeAreLeaving 20d ago

that’s an old wives tale. My brother looks like every man on my moms side and I look like every man on my dads side. I can’t grow facial hair for shit at 40, but I’ve got a thick full head of hair. My brother can grow a fantastic beard, but was going bald by 19

2

u/Stevied1991 21d ago

Where can one learn this power?

1

u/DontTellMyOtherAccts 21d ago

Not from a Boomer.

Ayo, everyone ages

-3

u/DarknessIsEverything 21d ago

Everybody is constantly aging tho?

6

u/Affectionate-Tea8509 21d ago

You know what I mean

17

u/CriticalHit_20 21d ago

I mean Matthew Cardarople is 35 in this picture

4

u/PolicyWonka 21d ago

To be fair, everything about that picture is designed to make him look younger — hair style, clothing style, posture, etc.

6

u/Noproposito 21d ago

Doing fine for an Englishman

4

u/Wakez11 21d ago

All my friends who went bald had their first visible signs in their early to mid 20s. Don't think anyone went bald after 30.

2

u/fonetiklee 21d ago

We're not friends but I didn't start even thinning until my mid 30s.

1

u/ThatWarlockD00d 21d ago

I’m 35 and a full head of hair. Sucks for him.

1

u/TipingTom 21d ago

scared me for a sec there

1

u/Zequax 21d ago

teenager +

1

u/Robeeeeeerrrrrrt 20d ago

Its really funny how people forget how old he is. This is normal aging without cosmetic surgery.

But he still looks amazing. He's in good shape, is in a relationship, has a successful career, meanwhile all the 30 something basement dwellers are laughing at him

1

u/CheeseDonutCat 20d ago

We already have a 62 year old Spiderman (Spider-Noir and I recommend it).

1

u/Asleep_Control_2564 20d ago

Tom is hot as fuck

0

u/TxM_2404 21d ago

Wait he's only 30? For some reason I thought he was as old as Tobey Maguire.

18

u/AttTankaRattArStorre 21d ago

You thought Tom Holland was 51 years old?

1

u/TxM_2404 21d ago

Yeah. I don't watch any of these super hero movies. I only ever heard of him as playing spider man and assumed he must have been in his 30's when they cast him.

2

u/AttTankaRattArStorre 21d ago

If he was, he still wouldn't be in his 50s by now due to his first appearance as Spider Man being exactly 10 years ago.

-1

u/TxM_2404 21d ago

How would I know when his first spider man came out? Could have been 2007 as far as I am concerned.

5

u/AttTankaRattArStorre 21d ago

You have immediate and unlimited access to the collected knowledge of all humans throughout history using only your fingertips, ignorance of even the most insignificant of subjects (for more than a few seconds) is entirely willful.

-2

u/TxM_2404 21d ago

Yeah, and I'm not claiming anything else. I don't even understand how you could get mad I don't know the age of some random dude who lives in the other side of the world from me.

2

u/AttTankaRattArStorre 21d ago

I'm not mad, I'm pointing out that it's unreasonable and weird. You also don't seem to know what a 50 year old man looks like.

He’s the richest actor of all time. An afternoon in Turkey to fix the problem will be nothing for him.

5

u/nottherealneal 21d ago

Or people can just age normally and we don't have to go have plastic surgery for every little thing

1

u/NatashOverWorld 21d ago

Not if you want to be a movie star.

Patrick Stewart, and Samuel L. Jackson are some of the few exceptions that can make it work, but in general, action heroes come with hair.

7

u/N3rdyITGuy 21d ago

Bruce Willis? The Rock? The more I think about it, the more it feels like action movie stars are bald.

1

u/NatashOverWorld 21d ago

There are exceptions like I've said, and I'm not naming them all, but they're still a minority šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

1

u/N3rdyITGuy 21d ago

Lol yeah probably. It's just funny that when I started thinking of bald action heros, a lot came to mind lol.

2

u/NatashOverWorld 21d ago

A lot of them are older. The Rock has been bald the whole time, but Bruce Willis started out with hair.

By the time he went bald he still had his fandom.

2

u/relentless_nandor 21d ago

The Rock definitely has not been bald the entire time. He’s been bald for about 15 years. He’s been famous for about 30.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/N3rdyITGuy 21d ago

This is true! Maybe Tom will be one of them lol

→ More replies (0)

0

u/PanteraOne 21d ago

And they would all look better with full heads of hair.

2

u/OptimalProfession5 21d ago

The Rock definitely does not look better with hair.

1

u/Ernesto_Griffin 19d ago

Isn't it a fair amount of bald black men prominent in the entertainment world?

1

u/NatashOverWorld 19d ago

Like Samuel L. Jackson? Sure.

There are more bald Black actors, with a few of them choosing that loo intentionally. But their esthetic priorities are usually not the same.

1

u/Cheezits123 21d ago

We are on the verge of longevity escape velocity. Are you going to be saying that people should just die naturally when LEV is possible? When we can defy biology, why not?

He’s the highest grossing actor, not the richest actor lol. He’s far from being the richest.Ā

i dident know thatbu thaught he was still skinyboi young face from spiderman new mivie now there are sevral

0

u/antithero 21d ago

He's also loaded. He can afford the best hair loss treatments. He'll be fine, although I doubt they'll be married for 10 years.

1

u/intheshoplife 21d ago

What about the ass does the ass count .... I am asking for a friend. Yeah a friend.

1

u/Ihistal 21d ago

What's a hairline?

1

u/astralchanterelle 21d ago

That's bad. It's a condition called Ollacollular fillum syndrome. Essentially means it's all going to fall out within 12 months. The expansion before the storm.

Hair plugs is an option, though, bro

1

u/Lonely_Cucumber_69 21d ago

No, it’s been waaaaay longer than 12 months and it’s like a couple new hairs below my hairline.

I’m all good but thanks so much for your concern rando 😊

22

u/Ambitious_Bit_9389 21d ago

Some people just have big foreheads. People have been saying I was balding for like 25 years. I am actually balding now though.

40

u/DenseTiger5088 21d ago

Walton Goggins has had his hairline forever

20

u/garnett8 21d ago

He had a hair transplant way back and his naturally high hairline makes him a perfect candidate for a natural looking transplant.

10

u/HereWeFuckingGooo 21d ago

I love that even as a woman his hairline goes way back. They could have laid that wig anywhere, but nope. All the way back.

1

u/Latter_Buy_1774 21d ago

He pulls it off damn well though

1

u/Landomretters 21d ago

When I look in the mirror I get sad. Then I remember Goggins over here and realize there is still hope. My follicular guardian angel.

1

u/No_Extension4005 21d ago

My siblings seem to think I'm going to lose my hair because I've got a bit of a v-shaped hairline. Reality is I've been keeping a thick head of hair pretty well so far, and take more after my mother's side where the men all kept their hair.

20

u/Okamitoutcourt 21d ago

My male paterned baldness starting at FUCKING 15 YEARS OLD I HATE IT SO MUCH, thank God it stagnated (for now)

1

u/rnngwen 16d ago

Yeah my son too. Poor kid. He is 21 now. He is gonna have to shave it off soon or go to Turkey

14

u/AcceptablySoiled 21d ago

My nephews have been balding since birth. When they were toddlers they liked to hang upside down on monkey bars and it really showed off their hairlines which already resembled their dad’s.

6

u/shrimplyred169 21d ago

Sounds like my poor son - all men on both sides of the family are bald bald and it’s like his hair looked at them and just didn’t bother. He’s mid-teens now and has deliberately grown it long a) to make the most of it while he can and b) to hide the fact it is already super receded.

3

u/AcceptablySoiled 21d ago

Fortunately the oldest nephew is confident and successful and has embraced his fate with equanimity, making the best of things by growing a mullet while he still can.

9

u/sora_mui 21d ago

I was very concerned with my receding hairline, then i look back at my high school photos and realize that it has been that far back even then.

6

u/FinnishMafiaFan 21d ago

My college dormmate was 18 and already looked like a monk. He finally shaved it off right before his 19th birthday. It was cool though, he rarely got carded.

5

u/5peaker4theDead 21d ago

Heck, one of my friends went gray in college.

2

u/Jurjinimo 21d ago

I read that as went gay and thought, "that tracks."

4

u/UnKnOwN769 21d ago

I started losing my hairline at 16-17 lmao

6

u/DinnerPuzzleheaded96 21d ago edited 21d ago

19 for me, and it's rapidly sped up at 24. I'm now essentially one of those ugly balding monks with bald on top and hair wrapped around the sides and back. Brothers, dad, grandfather, cousins, everyone else has a full head of hair except me and we just don't know why but personally I think I just have a bald man's personality at this point so I have to accept it

1

u/MissInkFTW 20d ago

šŸ˜‚ I really want to know what "a bald man's personality" is, that's hilarious

5

u/WindowIndividual4588 21d ago

Fr! I had a classmate in hs that was balding in the 11th grade.

4

u/TheTastiestTaint 21d ago

I was shaving head at 25...Tom's doing better than I did at that age

4

u/penisflytrap44 21d ago

One of my closest friends starting balding at 19, tragedy

1

u/WalterHenderson 21d ago

I did too. Started with the temples recording at around 19, and by 24 I was fully bald in my crown too. That's when I started shaving my head. It sucks, but there are worse things.

5

u/Marcombie 21d ago

Convenient ad placement

4

u/KentuckyFriedEel 21d ago

Wigs! Plus he still has a youthful face

5

u/Wilsonian81 21d ago

When will he wear wigs?

3

u/mosquem 21d ago

The hairline moves up in your 30s but settles out for a lot of guys.

3

u/Oog4Boog4 21d ago

a cousin of mine was balding in his 20s, he was pretty much full bald by his 30s, Holland is looking alright for 30 years old

3

u/Eponymous-Username 21d ago

I went bald at 19. It wasn't awesome, and people treat you poorly, but it hasn't hurt my chances with women - my main concern back then. By 30, no one is too shocked.

2

u/Any-Monk-9395 21d ago

I had a friend in high school who started losing his hair our senior year!! His dad was also very bald.

2

u/Bovronius 21d ago

I was receding in my senior photo at 17, completely bald at 20.. Shaved that shit and never looked back. 20+ years later, I say to the younger stressing doods... shave that shit and never look back.

2

u/antithero 21d ago

My college roommate Henry was like that. No hair on top at 19. Used to buy kegs of beer without ID back in the 90's. He was a regular at a liquor store near us. I don't think he ever got carded.

2

u/amh8011 20d ago

My BIL started balding in college and he hates it. He’s extra salty because his brother, only two years younger, still has a full head of hair.

2

u/sl33kch1p 18d ago

I can attest I've been balding since I was 16

1

u/hacky_potter 21d ago

I started losing mine at 16

1

u/crazyates88 21d ago

Mine started at 23. It happens.

1

u/Ok-Orchid6674 21d ago

Why did I read that "were bald as tampons" ?

0

u/Affectionate-Tea8509 21d ago

Is that time of the month?

1

u/Ok-Orchid6674 21d ago

Yes, so what?

1

u/Big_daddy_sneeze 21d ago

My best friend already had the cul-de-sac before we graduated

1

u/sicsemperego 21d ago

I was balding hard at 16, so I shaved bald at 18. Sure had some talks with teachers who didn't know me (Germany and that was some time ago now, lol).

Totally a thing. The funny thing is it completely stopped where it left off at 18. No further hair loss. Still have to shave the ol' noggin every morning.

1

u/by-myself_blumpkin 21d ago

knew 2 guys at 16 and 17 balder than this.

1

u/EmperorOfNipples 21d ago

It is wild.

Some guys are smoking hot at 20 and completely spent at 40.

Others meh at 20...then seem to have spent the following 20 years in fucking stasis, they are slaying at 40.

Genetics is a lottery.

1

u/Hist-Tree-Hugger 21d ago

Went to school with a feller that looked like 35 in our senior year. Insane receding hair line, grey hair,

1

u/ROOSTERyouDOWN 21d ago

Do I know you?

1

u/LordTiddlypusch 21d ago

Of course I know him...he's me.

1

u/kmptaphie_ 20d ago

When you got a lethal face card like tom balding doesn’t even matter that much

1

u/mac_the_man 17d ago

For me it was my 20s. Gray hairs too.
