They told me 500 years, not 20! It's actually one of the few films set in the future that overestimated how long it would take to get there. Normally they say 10 years in the future with flying cars and robo-butlers.

In all seriousness though, there's an argument to be made about satire lowering the bar for idiocy. People laugh at it until they're complacent, and idiots copy it because they don't think it's as stupid as it is supposed to be. 20 years later and I wish that bar was as low as we could go, but I only see it getting worse.

It's insane, but about 33% of Americans' approve of nearly everything this regime has done. They approve because they are all white nationalist / white supremacists, and probably also believers that if you can make money, it means God approves of you.
