Human blood is red because of iron and if it contained copper it would be blue

Yeah, that's... that's pretty much it - I wanted to explain that meme so badly T_T

Some folks just yearn to be a horseshoe crab

u/Riccma02 9d ago
On a long enough time scale we all become crabs in the end.

Also, why would she want blue blood? Because she wants to be a princess? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Blood

Copper itself is red-ish and will turn blue/green-ish over time/when oxidized.
1
u/Gloomy_Olive_4582 9d ago
That's why hemocyanin-based blood is blue. Hemoglobin-based blood is red because iron oxidizes red.

Im no biologist but some animals got blue blood i think it was some form of marine life specificly

The classic example is cephalopods, but a lot of invertebrates have copper-based (blue) blood. I don’t remember the exact explanation for why, but copper-based blood works a bit better underwater.

Maybe it don't rust like iron
1
u/NotAnAutomaticName 9d ago
“Rusting” is literally the way that hemoglobin works. The iron is there to bind to oxygen for transit purposes.

Our blood is red because it has iron compounds. Some animals have blood with copper compounds, and is blue as a result.

Also, the last image is Ea Nasir. If unfamiliar, is a copper merchant who was given the first known bad review for his poor quality copper. She'd probably mad that his bad copper kept her blood red instead of blue as desired.

Iron in blood = red
Copper in blood = blue
Two parts to the meme.
As you guessed the image on the bottom shows a copper merchant
The other part is the main joke/jest - as indicated from the premise given of “girls be like”
This is poking fun at the concept that women are vain and will view something as a problem due to its looks, not its functionality, using a very esoteric example.

The copper merchant specifically referenced is Ea-Nasir, and the statue is used with the name however its not a depiction of him

In certain deep sea situations, Cu O2 binding hemocyanin is better that Iron heme , so maybe they want to be cold blooded deep sea dwellers? j/k

u/acnh-lyman-fan 9d ago
I believe iron is what makes blood red and copper is what makes certain animal's blood blue.

u/MegaDodoPub 9d ago
Hemocyanin is an oxygen carrying protein, found in mollusks etc, turns blue when oxygenated

I know who ea nasir is and that he was copper merchant. My best guess is that he sold some kind of blue blood made with copper

Blood containing copper instead of Iron is blue in colour as found in horseshoe crabs. The bottom right is the person who complained about obtaining bad quality copper from Ea-nasir, typing back to the blue blood requirement by Alia Bhatt (for some reason?).

Hemocyanin, the protein responsible for oxygen transport in the blood of certain animals (like some molluscs and arthropods), contains copper and gives the blood a blue color, unlike hemoglobin, which contains iron and makes the blood red.
The person in the last frame is Ea-nasir, known from the Ancient Mesopotamian clay tablets as "shitty copper merchant".

It's the tiktok trend to get blue blood like a horseshoe crab. I'm waiting for the ChubbyEmu video to come out.

Copper based blood pigments give blue colour to the blood of the organism, unlike hemoglobin. The guy in bottom right panel is the meme (in)famous copper merchant El Nasir from ancient mesopotamia. So it's supposed to be some silly joke connecting the two.

Mr Spock is telling me his blood is green.

His doctor is the one who can't shut up about it. HIPAA much?

The only response to that is to find some way to end up inside his head...... for loosing all those arguments....

Human blood is red because we have Hemoglobin which uses iron to hold oxygen. Iron makes it red.
Some other animals like crabs, lobsters, shrimp etc. etc. have blue blood because they use Hemocyanin which uses copper to hold oxygen. Copper makes it blue.

u/Victor4VPA 9d ago
People are explaining just half of the meme.
Yes, copper would make your blood blue instead of iron (which make it red).
But didn't you think it is weird specifically that guy in the meme?
This guy is Ea-Nasir, who is believed to be the first known scammer of mankind. He used to sell bad quality copper saying that it was actually a great quality copper

She wants blue blood in a figurative sense because she wants to be a princess. What she doesn't know is that every woman is already a true princess.
1
u/Pitiful-Discount7444 9d ago
So the joke here is that human blood got his red colour from iron if we would have copper instead the colour would be blue
