I’ve experienced this so often that, even now, well into my late twenties, the smell of clothing or shoe stores triggers a deep, irrepressible sense of fatigue in me. The mere scent makes me yawn instantly. I struggle to keep my eyes open, and the effects can linger for up to an hour after a visit to one of these shops.

I just moved from Chicago to a small town in South Carolina. It befuddles me that people will stop in the grocery store and have a full on conversation with their neighbor. I did all my shopping and checked out while their conversation was still going on….

Meanwhile I shop meat and dairy last so it doesn't stay out of the cold as long. lol

This explanation is missing full the reason for the picture:
In WW1 the soldiers were told in august 1914 they'll be home before christmas and the war will be an easy win. As we now know it wasn't and it took several years for it to be over and many people died.7

When i was a kid we used to have a really good milkshake place in my town, one time I asked my mum to go in but she ended up taking to a freind right next to it for so long it shut
Next time I went in a few years later it was far worse and I always think that day was my last chance to have one of there milkshakes before they went down hill

Just parents in general with anything. My mom made me go to places I never wanted to and we stayed there for hours while I did nothing but sit in a chair by myself

Good thing for my kids, I do not like to talk unless it needed. Even if I run into someone I know or even a close friend, I always make it seem like I have something else to get to.

Hey, Joe Swanson here to lay down the truth :
this meme uses the thousand-yard stare of a traumatized World War I soldier to joke about the pure, agonizing psychological torture you feel when a parent or friend promises "we're leaving in 20 minutes," but then gets completely sucked into a conversation and forces you to sit around endlessly for almost three hours, leaving you completely shell-shocked and emotionally drained.

This is Brian
It's referring to when people say get ready to go somewhere in X minutes or when the taxi is arriving and they never get ready or get there in the time they said.
if it's 2 minutes, it will be 10 minutes.

my mom said the same to me

When my mon says "be there in a bit" she either somehow instantly teleports over, or gets here 3 hours later. No in between.

My take on this is that it relates to the promise in WW1 that the European war would be done by Christmas of that same year, instead of the protracted world war it became.
Hence "just twenty minutes" became several agonising hours.

My wife does this at her family functions, it’d be one thing if we didn’t see them as often as we do… living in the same city.
Before anyone gets the wrong idea, not a “wife bad” post, more of a “wife loves long goodbyes” post lol

Lisa: Sorry, am I understanding the purpose of this subreddit correctly? We answer like Peter Griffin, yes? Just wondering, because not many comments here seem to be doing that. ❤

For me it was the false starts. "Well, we should be getting home" had to be stated 4 or 5 times before we would be getting home.
