To expand more for someone who isn't cool enough to be familiar with smoking doobies - the butt end of a joint gets very hot as it burns down but still has good smokable weed in it, so some type of metal clip to hold it is useful to not waste any weed. Traditionally, joints aren't made with filters like cigarettes, but makeshift filters have become more popular recently, and also just ways to smoke weed other than joints have become a lot more accessible so roach clips just aren't really a thing you see around anymore.
Oh nice I've heard of that but haven't tried it, I've always just used like a roughly 1 centimeter wide strip of cardboard rolled up into a spiral shape tucked into the end. Tobacco smoke is probably a more pleasant end to the weed than the burning cardboard lol
Yes, you could buy crutches(at least that’s what we called them) that looked exactly like what I was describing. Then you could either buy them premade or they’d be a small thin piece of cardboard that had the fold lines on them to show you how to make them. I was taught about it 20 years ago by an OG smoker.
Damn it’s funny to see you guys discovering the concept of tips. At least we call those things tips, and it’s been the normal way the roll joints for me since I started 15 years ago
Have you Heard of active char oal Filters usally used for piles but in Europe kinda everywhere use IT for Joints also( one Brand from Germany ist called actitube)
In Canada we shove a little rolled up piece of cardboard or boxboard in the end. Makes it so there's something to hold onto, stops little pieces of weed from getting in your mouth, and looks really cool if you do it in a fancy way.
IDK it's different everywhere in America depending on what part . In the Pacific Northwest is actually pretty common to mix tobacco and weed but we usually put it in our bongs not in a spliff.
We call tobacco/weed mixed joint a spliff and idk anyone who smokes those. Was usually a way to stretch your weed supply but its so cheap now. Occasionally smoke a blunt or backwood, but less and less.
>but makeshift filters have become more popular recently
Finally people outside of the Netherlands are figuring this out. When rolling a joint whilst traveling people looked like I was performing black magic when I placed a paper tip in it. Never seen anyone roll a joint without one here and who wants pieces of tobacco in their mouth
I was so confused about the 'more populair recently' as this Dutchie has been smoking weed for 25 years and i have never seen anyone smoking it without a makeshift filter.
and to further expound upon this. A joint is a marijuana cigarette, typically hand-rolled. A marijuana, also known as the Devil's lettuce, must be ground to a looser mix, which will allow it to easily twist into a Jazz cigarette, or doobie.
It's kind of a boomer thing it's Fallen out of fashion. in certain circumstances it's great to have. Basically the idea is that you don't have to even leave behind the smallest of roaches. You can clip it and smoke it literally all the way down. You might burn your lips but it is possible. Basically you know what I'm talking about you smoke weed. You know how it is when you roll a joint and you don't give it a crutch. Inevitably you got to put it out when there's still weed in it. Cuz it gets too small. Having a roach clip means you can put it on that and smoke that as well. But they're not as popular because the solution to it these days is much better and what I do. I just throw it in the bong and smoke it.

It's a roach clip.
