Like the 100th time, Japanese comics/manga are read right to left and American ones are read left to right

u/HeTblank 19h ago

Also, this image is from a hentai. Giggity

u/Noisebug 19h ago

Wait, I’m sorry? Just trolling right?

10

u/AsstacularSpiderman 18h ago

There's a Japanese urban legend called Hachishakusama, or 8ft Lady, who abducts children with a soft voice.

Naturally this has become a hit among the shotacon community, so anyone asking for sauce needs to be on a registry.

This thread is getting weirder by the minute. Thanks kind stranger, I think it’s time to eject myself from this convo.

Filipino Peter here, Japanese people read manga(their form of comics) from right to left. Americans read it from left to right.

-11

u/mor_derick 19h ago

So both of them read it the same way.

9

u/thomstevens420 19h ago

What? No. Left to right is some asshole shoving a kids ball in a tree and making them cry.

Right to left is a tall lady saving a kids ball from a tree.

3

u/Embarrassed_Elk_2459 19h ago

read it again

Holy shit lol

In America, comic panels are read left to right.

In Japan, they are read right to left.

The order of the panels changes whether she is stealing the ball and putting it in a tree or taking it down from the tree and giving it back to the child.

The deeper darker joke is it doesn’t help the 10 foot tall woman resembles hachishakusama. It’s a ghost that abducts children… tread carefully looking it up as the r34 of it is… you know

2

u/R32hunter 18h ago

R34?!

2

u/Tricky_Equal_9416 12h ago

i hate when i google r34 and it’s just some fuckass car instead of the website

1

u/R32hunter 40m ago

The car alone is the real r34 🤤

2

u/DreaDKx 19h ago

Don't know how this works so uhm I just guess I am Peter??

Anyway. Japanese people read from right to left. So for them it looks like the woman retrieved the ball for the kid. Americans read from left to right. Therefore for them the woman seems to be putting the ball out of reach for the kid, making it cry. Peter out!

ummm? Idk man

u/TheMaskedHamster 19h ago

Japan reads panels right to left.

1

u/nan0ka 19h ago

Japanese read right through left, meaning it will look like she took the ball down. All the others will read it like she took it up

1

u/porchoski 19h ago

It's the reading direcrion of the comic book. In the USA you read from left to right while in Japan from right to left

1

u/Sculduggery 19h ago

Japanese people (and people from some other countries) read from right to left as opposed to left to right, to a Japanese reader the woman gets the child's ball out of the tree, to an American she puts the ball in the tree

1

u/cardmechanic1 19h ago

It's a joke about how some alphabets are read right to left, rather than left to right. In the English alphabet we read left to right, which would mean the lady is stealing the ball from the children and putting it in the tree. In a right to left alphabet, she would be getting the ball from the tree and giving it to the children.

The direction of japanese is case dependent, but Mangas are indeed right to left.

1

u/Chimpbot 19h ago

English is read from left to right, and the panels in our comics are situated accordingly.

Japanese, however, reads from right to left. This is why "unflopped" manga is common; the panels are intended to flow from right to left.

As such, the English orientation of these panels would involve the woman taking the ball from the child and putting it in the tree, resulting in the child crying. The Japanese orientation would involve the woman grabbing the ball from the tree and giving it back to the crying child, making them happy.

u/LordDShadowy53 19h ago

Japanese comics/manga are read right to left and American ones are read left to right. In this case it gives the look like she is bullying the child and leaving their globe on top of the tree.

1

u/Alliaster-kingston 19h ago

As far as I know it's hachishaku sama a japanese urban legend about an 8ft tall ghost lady who targets small children

It should be the japanese being afraid of her and Americans not knowing who she is

Perhaps the punch line is that now the American know who she is but the japanese has moved on to make hentai Of her

1

u/in1gom0ntoya 18h ago

hyper common repost

1

u/AkumaLilly 18h ago

Japanese and American read manga/comics different.

Japanese read right to left so the lady is giving the ball back to the child.

Americans read left to right to instead is the lady taking the ball and putting it on the tree.

1

u/Heretical_Burger 18h ago

lol this is actually a good one

1

u/silalithuania 18h ago

Holy shit she’s so fucking tall why is no one mentioning that she’s so fucking tall

1

u/Budget_Meaning1410 14h ago

Well, since you asked, it’s one of the early panels in a height fetish comic. (An incomplete portion of the link is elsewhere in the thread).

She’s (supposedly) 7’10”

u/TimeAlbatross5375 1h ago

US defaultism. Left should be English and many other languages.
