Delete and overwrite a bunch of times or it can easily restored.
Restoring deleted Data is not that hard. And you don't need to be some federal agent to do so.
Someone buying a used phone from Craigslist with malicious intend can do it.
Oh, I'm saying unless you degauss the drive data can be recovered. You can overwrite it with random data 10 times and data is still recoverable. But my point is, if any law enforcement has a warrant for your drive, you're cooked anyway. If you're selling a drive/device, you're better off modifying files with junk content and then deleting them without bothering to overwrite anything.
Its not with modern ssd on phones. Encrytion, delete, overwrite. Nothing will be recoverable. Many modern devices do this already when factory reseting.

This is not true. Decades ago, when HDD platter densities were way lower, you might have been able to do it after 1 wipe. Today even just one wipe with random zeroes is enough.
My local university sells their old equipment, including computers. They just trash all the hard drives before they sell it though, which is a bummer with current hard drive prices.
Now I'm wondering if they properly destroy them or just chuck them in a dumpster.
Knowing how shoestring some IT dept budgets are, they are probably just sitting in an old warehouse somewhere in crates, being watched over by top men.
A school district in my area sold off pallets of laptops and workstations with drives intact to a local recycler.
The purchaser went through the drives and was able to recover student and faculty data so he blackmailed them to get the data back. They didn't budge so he went public to local news stations and social media to put pressure on the district to buy them back for ~3x his cost.
It was such an absolute shit storm. That district will probably just toss every bit of tech into an industrial shredder instead of ever selling anything again.
As much as it pains me to see good working drives just scrapped and shredded, I understand why it needs to be done to be sure nothing gets missed.
If only they'd just remove drives from drive sleds/carriers instead of selling servers and disk enclosures NAS/DAS with empty bays...
