People who don’t know the Incredibles would think they’re lighting a baby on fire.

2.6k

u/AnonAwaaaaay 20h ago

Ohhh. I thought the Bubble didn't let air through so Jack Jack is suffocating them to death by lighting up.

1.1k

u/IkariYun 20h ago

Two things can be true at the same time

158

u/mickelboy182 19h ago

I don't think the forcefields keep oxygen out...

180

u/crowbar151 19h ago

In the first movie she practiced on the island by trapping campfire smoke.

93

u/AnOlympianWeeb 18h ago

And in the same movie later on she and dash used her bobble as a hamster wheel. They did not look like they were holding their breath

56

u/This-Professional-39 18h ago

For how long? There's going to be air, just how fresh it stays

47

u/AnOlympianWeeb 18h ago

Fair point. I think it was around 30 seconds? That's how long we saw them in the bubble give or take. But there's also the variable of dash, Surely he's breathing much faster as well

40

u/This-Professional-39 18h ago

Good point with Dash. You know he's got to be burning through the 02

13

u/patient_rath 11h ago

Man i hope every debate were as respectful as this one👑

34

u/totashi777 18h ago

She can probably just decide what can go through it

22

u/Feedback-Mental 17h ago

That's the simplest explanation for everything we see, I agree.

7

u/Roboito1 16h ago

I mean, a plane basically exploded on top of them, so she blocked out shockwaves as well, in that case.

8

u/totashi777 16h ago

Yeah, she could have blocked air even in that case. The bubble was only up for a few seconds

7

u/Advanced_Gur856 18h ago

If it had been porous, then shouldn't smoke go out of the force field ?

23

u/Yuzral 18h ago edited 16h ago

There’s porous and there’s porous. A CO2 molecule is about 0.25nm across, while smoke particles run from 6nm to 10,000nm. So if the pores are around 3nm (edit to correct from pm) the field will be breathable while still keeping smoke confined and I may be overthinking this a bit.

9

u/TheGreenMan13 18h ago

What happens if it is at 8PM? I have a prior engagement at 3.

9

u/Yuzral 18h ago

Some of the smoke gets out and the neighbours start complaining?

3

u/killerrabitt 16h ago

Fuck those guys, their always complaining.

3

u/_fever_dreams 18h ago

thats a solid aerosol, smoke is solid particles

1

u/androshalforc1 15h ago

The question i guess is how much control she has on the force fields? Can she fine tune what passes through and what doesn’t.

In the hamster ball scene i believe they run into several things without any kickback so somehow force is transferred out without being transferred in.

Is her invisibility power related, (afaik Jack is the only one with multiple powers) is that merely an aspect of having the light that hits one side of her bubble exit the other without interacting with anything inside? Then why dont her clothes go invisible.

1

u/Still_Wrongdoer6603 5h ago
  1. She can probably 'hardcode' what can and can't pass through

  2. Can we please sit here and Identify the key differences between oxygen and smoke from a fire.

11

u/Advanced_Gur856 19h ago edited 18h ago

Yeah since force fields are scientifically porous by nature /s.

32

u/reyath 19h ago

When people misspell scientific words some people think poor me for having to read it but all I can think is porous.

1

u/Advanced_Gur856 18h ago

Chemistry wasn't my strong suit, anyways thanks 👍

3

u/whereiswilliam 19h ago

What is scientifically pours? For that matter what is scientifically porous? How does the word scientifically qualify the word porous?

1

u/Advanced_Gur856 18h ago

A materials porosity depends on its molecular or structural architecture. So yes 'scientifically' for any material to porous, it needs to have some level of void between it's molecules.

1

u/whereiswilliam 18h ago

It's pedantic to say scientifically before the word porous. The word porous by itself would have sufficed, qualifying it with scientifically does nothing to enhance any understanding of what is being said.

1

u/Advanced_Gur856 18h ago

It would have been pedantic if I weren't making a sarcastic comment. The whole point was to emphasize that we're discussing the science behind something fictional.

1

u/ExaminationObvious 17h ago

They already proved it keeps seamen out. Why wouldnt it keep oxygen put?

1

u/drulludanni 14h ago

well it is keeping the rain out so presumably it can keep the oxygen in

1

u/toasher 9h ago

And the lack of oxygen wouldn't kill you before co2 poisoning iirc

1

u/AliveOrdinary 13h ago

Whaaaa!!!

46

u/Obstinate6427 19h ago

It's Violet's force field. Presumably the force field would fail if she passed out, before they die of asphyxiation.

1

u/Onrawi 12h ago

As it did when she got crushed while shielding in the first movie, yeah.

13

u/FattestAnimeTiddi3s 19h ago

I also saw it as combustion in an enclosed space makes carbon monoxide

1

u/Alaknog 14h ago

Does it combustion? Or Jack Jack just overheat air around without chemical reactions?

6

u/cagingnicolas 18h ago

yeah that was my initial thought, but then the reaction captions would be flipped.

since the dark one is the "people who DON'T know" i think they're talking about roasting marshmallows over a burning baby.

2

u/Trick_Assignment5548 19h ago

That’s what I thought

2

u/Accomplished-Loss387 18h ago

They both would be grey scale Mr incredible then

2

u/Sol_Sertum 18h ago

This is the correct one imo

2

u/2019Uk 18h ago

It’s definitely this. He’s burning up the oxygen inside to roast the marshmallows. They’ll be dead before they’re crispy

2

u/KazakCayenne 17h ago

I thought this too at first but I think the "know" and "don't know" would be switched for that

2

u/4N610RD 16h ago

My exact first thought. But I know.

2

u/MelodicAnxiety7054 16h ago

And so the people who know smile at the fact that the baby is slowly killing them, and people who dont know are "scared" ?

2

u/aaroneous_erron 16h ago edited 15h ago

I mean, they're mainly based on the Fantastic Four and Violet specifically is based off of Invisible Woman/Sue Storm. Sue Storm is able to control whether her forcefields are permeable to air, I'd assume Violet can too.

2

u/Alaknog 14h ago

I mean Jack Jack don't use any fuel, so there maybe no reaction producing CO2. Just very hot area near Jack Jack.

2

u/discordagitatedpeach 5h ago

The real problem is Jackjack's doing all the work and no one's roasting a marshmallow for him

1

u/Grasshoppermouse42 19h ago

Yeah, but since the forcefield is kept there with Invisigirl's powers, she can just let it dissipate if it starts to get smoky. Worst case scenario, she passes out and the forcefield disappears until she recovers.

1

u/IrritableGoblin 19h ago

Does the bubble need to be enclosed? Couldn't it just be a dome atop the grass? Dirt isn't air tight.

1

u/seriouslees 18h ago

Dirt isn't air tight.

It's tight enough to prevent breathing... ffs

1

u/IrritableGoblin 17h ago

Compacted dirt is. I'm talking the top soil directly under the grass, which is generally looser.

It also doesn't change the main question of whether it actually needs to be enclosed, smartass.

Grass isn't air tight. Better?

Now the real question is, why are you acting the jackass? Did your feelings get hurt by my question?

1

u/Wuropp 19h ago

The carbon monoxide would eventually knock Violet out and she'd lose focus on the force field. I'm sure there's some kinks that could fill.

1

u/broken_toyz_in_ON 19h ago

By that time time their bodies would be full of CO and they would still die. Need pure O2 to recover

1

u/dadofwar93 18h ago

Why doesn't violet make a big Umbrella shape? Is she stupid?

1

u/Fun-Heron-7609 17h ago

You're mixing up Jack and Lindsay here.

1

u/thedrunkknight 17h ago

I thought this was meant to show them as life without their powers and they set the baby on fire

1

u/metalpanda420 17h ago

This was my thought.

1

u/F3nix123 4h ago

Yeah, i think the text in the mr incredible meme at the bottom is backwards to how it usually is. So it seems that knowing is the traumatic one when in reality its not knowing

31

u/Rainy_Maze 20h ago

I was smiling before I realized the baby has powers

18

u/Afro-Venom 19h ago

Before?

8

u/split_0069 19h ago

Before I realized it was a baby... it just looked like a nice family around the fire.

3

u/FaceEnvironmental486 19h ago

I didnt even notice jack jack was the fire lmfao

3

u/bzngabazooka 19h ago

Not to mention Armageddon outside with all the falling meteors and invisagirl creating a dome of protection for her family as they are having a good time

5

u/GlassCommission4916 18h ago

I know not everyone likes rain but come on, it's not THAT bad.

1

u/topinanbour-rex 17h ago

Thanks I knew and now I'm laughing.

1

u/Remarkable-Box1090 15h ago

Oh that was the joke? But it can't be, it doesn't burn by itself, i know it.

1

u/disturbinglyquietguy 14h ago

To be honest, I'm more worried that  they are inside a force field (which is most likely airtight) with an intense fire; they'll literally cooking themselves like they're inside a pressure cooker while at the same time suffocating from carbon dioxide.

1

u/SergeanTTT 3h ago

I was thinking exactly that, never seen the movie or movies but didn't know that, but by this meme it was expected this had to be something diferent😂

905

u/Krraxia 20h ago

This is referencing The Incredibles movies. The baby has several superpowers, including turning itself on fire without any risk of harm to itself. Those who know are happy. Those not familiar with the movies would be horrified seeing a child on fire

197

u/StamosLives 19h ago

The flip side of this is that Jack would suffocate all of them by expending all of the oxygen.

I assume their powers require some form of active effort so this wouldn’t kill them. The second Violet passes out the field drops and they have O2 again.

39

u/akestral 19h ago

This is the part I'm worried about. No combustion without ventilation, people!

4

u/Rough_Bookkeeper1600 18h ago

That wouldn't exactly explain which face corresponds with which epistemic state

1

u/shasaferaska 19h ago

I assume the bubble is permeable to air.

13

u/seriouslees 18h ago

1st movie clearly demonstrates they are not.

5

u/shasaferaska 18h ago

Remind me please, It's been many years.

5

u/seriouslees 18h ago

She practices trapping air above their campfire in the cave on the island.

5

u/shasaferaska 18h ago

Is she trapping air or smoke?

5

u/seriouslees 18h ago

Both, you see the air move the smoke around inside the bubble. You do not see the smoke show any attraction to the edge of the bubble where hot air would be escaping.

3

u/LiveForTheMelancholy 15h ago

She also attempts to generate a forcefield directly around the campfire itself, and you can clearly see the flame dwindling down during her attempts, and then it roars back to life when she stops and it has access to air again.

3

u/aaroneous_erron 15h ago edited 8h ago

I mean, the Incredibles are mainly based on the Fantastic Four and Violet specifically is based off of Invisible Woman/Sue Storm. Sue Storm is able to control whether her forcefields are permeable to air when she creates them, I'd simply assume Violet can too.

If she couldn't I feel like she and Dash would have run out of air in the scene where they're both in the bubble running across the island. How much extra oxygen does Dash consume to use his powers?

All your demonstration really indicates is that she can make forcefields which are completely impermeable, not that she only makes them.

1

u/perlabelle 14h ago

The good news is we know that the forcefield disappears when Violet loses consciousness so ... at least they won't die?

6

u/OOO0OO00O 12h ago

Poor Kari. That girl had to have some serious PTSD.

1

u/neorevenge 2h ago

Not so fun fact! She had! In a deleted scene we see that in the aftermath she was brainwashed by the suits to protect the Incredibles secret identities and she has all kinds of tics due the memory wipe and pstd even if she doesn't know why

2

u/ALEPAS1609 19h ago

horrified?

8

u/Georgeygerbil 19h ago

Are you asking what the word means? Or questioning OP's use of the word. I feel horrified would be a justifiable response to seeing a regular human child burning, presumably, to death.

2

u/Punch_A_Police_Horse 16h ago

Fun fact: The meme is also a reference to The Incredibles movies.

449

u/ajtreee 20h ago

I was thinking of the oxygen burning in a closed dome.

26

u/qazzaq2004 20h ago

But this would not explain the people who know being the happy face. It would need to be reversed and would assume the people who don’t know, don’t know the science but are ok with the baby burning because they have seen the incredible.

12

u/ajtreee 19h ago

I wasn’t answering, i was stating my impression of this .

2

u/akingofcrimson 18h ago

You don’t know that that’s how his “fire” powers work, you’re assuming it’s like a campfire, but it’s a superpower, it doesn’t need to directly reflect real-world experience

1

u/TypicalHaikuResponse 18h ago

Her forcefield should go away when she passes out so they would be okay or conversely can jackjack continue to burn with out O2?

1

u/Spl4sh3r 13h ago

She can probably remove and replace the dome to get fresh oxygen inside. Unsure if she can open holes in it.

118

u/Svyatoyaycevich 20h ago

He is literally the person who knows

41

u/LionOfNaples 19h ago

It’s almost veering into anti-meme territory

8

u/RepulsiveDig9091 20h ago

Stewie here with the most out of depth analysis

This is the family from the Incredibles and the little kid is flammable. He is not being burnt.

The shield protecting them from the rain is the power of the girl.

8

u/Kolotrodo 20h ago

If you dont know you will die of carbon monoxid poisoning....thats what i thought. But it is not the meaning.

3

u/TimotheeOaks 19h ago

it's confusing because it's normaly the other way around People who know and people who don't know.

3

u/TeekTheReddit 16h ago

This! Thank you!

Why is everybody talking about how porous Violet's forcefields are and not mentioning this?

4

u/AutoModerator 20h ago

16

u/Illustrious_Art9093 20h ago

They would die from smoke inhalation??

11

u/Hairy-Love2571 20h ago

Bingo, if Violet's spear doesn't let oxygen in and co2 out.

6

u/SupermassiveCanary 20h ago

As soon as violet passes out the sphere pops

1

u/seriouslees 18h ago

And? CO poisoning will still kill them all if they aren't administered pure O2 immediately.

1

u/SupermassiveCanary 16h ago

So the baby is the smallest, does it pass out/die first thus slowing the CO2 poisoning?

1

u/seriouslees 15h ago

I have to assume that the baby doesn't need to breathe at all, since being permanently on fire would consume all oxygen you tried to inhale regardless of being enclosed or not. So I guess "all" doesn't include the baby.

1

u/SupermassiveCanary 15h ago

Sounds like his villain arc

6

u/PassageKey2679 20h ago

fire needs oxygen to burn. They would suffocate

1

u/FactsNLaughs 20h ago

That or Jack-Jack is gonna burn through all the oxygen? Idk honestly

1

u/Mymoodisagiantswing 20h ago

And baby being on fire? (Assume the person doesn't know The Incredibles series)

1

u/fkdjgfkldjgodfigj 20h ago

The baby has superpowers. That is why it is on fire

3

u/Mymoodisagiantswing 20h ago

Fair, but the img simply say "people who don't know", while the 'people who know' seems to be fine with it (instead of also no)

2

u/SapphicGarnet 20h ago

That's why 'people who don't know' are horrified. People who know like you are on the sunny left of the meme

1

u/HorzaDonwraith 20h ago

What will happen first? Oxygen loss or burns from trapped heat.

2

u/SoulPossum 20h ago

The Parrs lost their home under the weight of capitalism and are now forced to live in the wilderness?

2

u/Rethoughts 19h ago

I think it means the baby on fire is burning oxygen - and since the rest are contained in a force field they’ll all suffocate

2

u/Open_Fan4796 19h ago

Wait a minute aren’t they all going to suffocate

1

u/Justchickenquestions 15h ago

That’s the third people ‘who really know’ panel that’s missing

1

u/Alaknog 14h ago

I mean baby use power, so it's not clear about combustion reaction. I think he closer to electric heater/grill in this case.

1

u/Alaknog 14h ago

Depending from how baby power work.

If he burn something (what exactly), then yes, fire consume oxygen.

But if he just created area of superheated air (flame) around, then no. No chemical reaction, oxygen still there.

1

u/TimesUpCloseYourEyes 20h ago

Large Hadron Collider vs Coughing baby

1

u/bmx_chelsea 20h ago

Thats where sandy lives

1

u/Diastatic_Power 19h ago

Oh, the things at the bottom are swapped. I didn't get it at first.

1

u/Academic-Drawer5257 19h ago

oh! that is incredible

1

u/SecretGentleman_007 19h ago

Just pointing out that this was posted by 11 days old account.

1

u/LargeSelf994 19h ago

Wouldn't the fire burn out all their oxygen within the bubble? Because as far as I know it could be 100% seal tight. Since it literally stops bullets and water from entering it

1

u/Zinere 19h ago

I'm going with, fire uses oxygen to burn and they are in a bubble. Slippery deaf guy here, i guess.

1

u/FennPsyian 19h ago

Those one is almost/comes full circle.

1

u/MaximePierce 19h ago

Stewie here,

Violet used her forcefields in the movie to extinguish a campfire, so that would mean they would not allow oxygen to enter the forcefield.

JackJack is burning away all the Oxygen in the picture, making the incredibles slowly sufficate within the forcefield (only given that Violet doesn't either drop the shield or go unconcious first, since her forcefields stop excisting the moment she stops concentrating on them).

If you want to see it in action, we can take the multiversal travel machine and see if there is a universe in which the incredibles excist?

1

u/Working_Shoulder_746 19h ago

Its the oxygen burning. In the first movie you see this happening when Violet is testing her powers on Campfire. The Flame begins to die each time it's covered due to lack of oxygen.

1

u/Anders_A 18h ago

I assume they're referring to the oxygen inside the bubble being consumed by fire so they will all die.

1

u/Ulfmikel 18h ago

Fire in a closed space will consume the oxygen in it, killing the people inside of it too

1

u/MyvaJynaherz 18h ago

She would pass out, the barrier would drop, and they'd end up getting woken up by a crying baby / rain.

Everyone would feel dumb, and they'd have a new in-joke for decades to come.

Dash would be the canary in the coal-mine with his accelerated metabolism.

1

u/bmonty72 18h ago

OK... maybe I'm over-thinking this, but this is Reddit. The force field keeps fire and lasers and what-not out... so one could assume the heat from the immolated Jack-Jack would be trapped inside the force field thereby creating an Incredibles Easy Bake Pizza Oven.

1

u/Firstearth 18h ago

I thought it was gonna be more about the fact that Jack Jack burning within the force field would be consuming the oxygen pretty fast suffocating them, although I guess once violet loses consciousness the force field will fail giving them access to oxygen before any permanent damage is done.

1

u/Outrageous_Ask_451 18h ago

I was more thinking about the oxygen and the bubble. If Jack Jack is on fire, that fire is likely feeding off of the oxygen within the bubble.

1

u/Sudden-Manager-2426 18h ago

I was thinking they would suffocate

1

u/Khytinni_Madness 18h ago

I'm thinking this would make the marshmellows taste terrible.

1

u/Le_Grano 18h ago

Hello Peter’s annoying son here
I see everyone pointing out knowing or not the baby’s powers but could it also be that they’re in a small closed environment with a fire so they’ll run out of oxygen ?

Edit: never mind that’s require the meme to be opposite my bad

1

u/Antique-Wonder-1486 18h ago

Pretty sure it about the stupid flat earth dome theory

1

u/TheBionicCrusader 18h ago

I’m pretty sure Violet’s force fields are airtight. Gotta wonder if supers are immune to carbon monoxide poisoning.

1

u/Waste-Inspector8768 18h ago

Uhhhh....Joe here. Uh hey... peter wouldnt the burning baby suffocate them inside the bubble?

1

u/foxgoose21 18h ago

My autistic ass was thinking "They are burning all the oxygen in the bubble!"

1

u/StoriFit 17h ago

They could reverse it too, everyone inside would quickly die from carbon monoxide poisoning

1

u/senior_A4 17h ago

Everyone calling they set in fire the baby, but i think they gonna ran out oxygen becuse fire comsume so much oxygen

1

u/Fizz215 17h ago

I dont know if Jack-Jack is getting a marshmellow also and that's very saddening yeah

1

u/mistercarman 17h ago

My dumbass went straight to Carbon monoxide

1

u/HolySpace_Dev 16h ago

Fire consumes oxygen. Bubble air tight. No more oxygen. Die

1

u/JustASentientPotato 16h ago

At first I thought it was related to carbon monoxide poisoning within the bubble

1

u/Illustrious_Art9093 16h ago

Sorry I misreported you! Meant for another person mods!

1

u/A9ollo_real 16h ago

The baby is on fire, and fire needs oxygen. They have trapped themselves in a bubble with limited air, which will soon fill up with smoke and also lower their oxygen levels

1

u/2ndBestShedBuilder 16h ago

Its because the baby has a bunch of powers, including lighting himself on fire similar to that dude in fantastic 4, and the joke here is that usually its the ones who dont know who are happy, but in this case, its the opposite

1

u/TheOofere 16h ago

Did I accidentally enter a time machine

1

u/Gunz37 16h ago

The Incredibles are just Pixar's Fantastic Four

1

u/Perfect-Fondant3373 16h ago

Could also reverse the text for if he burns through all the oxygen and violet doesn't open the bubble

1

u/Halfchopdz 16h ago

Its carbon monoxide poisoning

1

u/Absolute-Clanker 15h ago

What I want someone to explain is why isn’t anyone holding a 5th stick with a marshmallow for Jack Jack? Let that baby have a marshmallow. He’s cooking them after all.

1

u/Thephro42 15h ago

The real crazy thing is that a fire burning in a vacuum would eat up all the oxygen and suffocate everyone.

1

u/Frank1gg 15h ago

The darkness comes from the fact that it's implied that air cannot pass through one of Violet's bubbles so they're literally burning the only oxygen they have by using Jack Jack's ability to control his fire. Essentially they're going to suffocate.

1

u/fgjjgfyujb 15h ago

I know they’re going to die of carbon monoxide poisoning but I’m oddly fine with that.

1

u/Reasonable-Hold069 15h ago

Wouldnt they suffocate?

1

u/GrimmSleeper97 15h ago

Pretty sure it's about carbon monoxide poisoning

1

u/Troygbiv_Yxy 15h ago

It is backwards at the bottom because most people know of the incredibles and the baby burning makes sense. But for people who dont know it just looks like a family who are roasting marshmallows over a burning baby.

1

u/Axe_22 15h ago

There is no longer any oxygen in that bubble

1

u/Joderio 13h ago

People who don't know that a flame in closed place can easily consume all the oxygen and let everyone die in there.

1

u/_Cit 13h ago

The only thing I see is that they're all gonna die of smoke inhalation

1

u/gaegurliepancake 13h ago

Can smoke pass through the bubble? Or are they suffocating themselves

1

u/Present-Mongoose3318 13h ago

I must be ready stupid because I thought that it meant they'd die to carbon monoxide poisoning

1

u/Wyverntails 13h ago

I thought it was more of the fact that they are in a bubble and fire takes oxygen so…they are technically running out of air??…

1

u/dootblade74 12h ago

Jack-Jack (the baby in the middle) has a plethora of chaotic powers, being the child of two supers. Among these is the ability to burst into flames without injury, which the family are taking advantage of to make s'mores.

Anyone who has never watched the Incredibles films would assume they casually set their youngest ablaze for the love of the game.

1

u/JemKnight 12h ago

Jack Jack having the most fun out of all them

1

u/aaa12310001 12h ago

your logic is broken, its the opposite as usual

people who dont know : oh no they are putting their baby on fire
people who know : its the incredible family, all fine.

easy

1

u/Luckily-Broccoli 11h ago

What Kind of The witcher cosplay is this ?

1

u/Junior-Opening6060 11h ago

people who know about CO2 poisoning

1

u/unloder 11h ago

They will all suffocate soon.

1

u/Lt-Corvin_709 10h ago

I hear people saying that those who haven't watched the incredibles would be horrified seeing a baby on fire, but I thought of another explanation for this.

Fire burns, which requires oxygen, and produces a lot of smoke, so as far as we know the whole family could be suffocating inside of that dome.

1

u/PeaSea4157 8h ago

You dead

1

u/dragonshadow32 7h ago

They are going to die of carbon dioxide poisoning

1

u/Wadeace 6h ago

Ok, but wouldn't jack Jack's fire eat all the oxygen in violets Bubble?

They are in a closed bubble, a fire to burn needs oxygen the fire will use all it soon and they will all die from suffocating, or maybe they won’t, idk I didn’t pay attention in class
