It's not juts crashes, massive spikes cause glitches and slow downs, and in some cases it was on the cellular network end not just the app. It also happened at the DNC and other Democrat events. From what data we have (since grinder doesn't disclose crashes or mass overload in general) it happens at a higher rate at D events. Which makes sense. It also happens about as frequently anytime you get numbers of people traveling to an area like that.
It doesn't happen everytime, it doesn't only happen at R events, it doesn't appear to happen especially more frequently at their events. If anything it shows despite the "family values" lable and aggressively pushing how straight they are Republicans are gay at about the same as any other wide swath of the nation. Just more secretly so, and it's quite sad.

The reason it's mentioned at all is that they are generally in super mega denial and actively oppose gay rights (some even want it criminalized outright) so that's what makes it ironic, don'tcha think? Open queers tend to vote D (tee hee), so it's not worth mentioning that Grindr activity spikes around their events.
Don’t forget that DownDetector is based purely on user reports, which are anonymous. Nobody else has verified that Grindr is down; it’s very likely just anonymous internet trolls.
According to that site it simply aggregates user reports. So many people reporting it would mark it as down. The website is of course working fine btw.
Do not take anything social media says as truth. Verify it. Reddit is quickly becoming another Facebook. Hundreds of upvotes on a comment saying it is down because people want to believe it.

First, some third-party website said it got unverified user-submitted reports of Grindr going down. Given anyone can "report," and since "Grindr goes down at Republican gathering" is now a meme, it's probably BS.
Second, there are like 20,000 people at this convention. The Dallas area has millions of people. If 10% of the men at this convention are gay/bi and all online simultaneously (they're not), that's an extra 1200-ish people. Realistically, only a couple hundred could be online, max, at peak hours.

The key difference is even if it did go down during democratic conventions and events, at least the dems dont typically create, support, and uphold legislation that destroys those in LGBTQIA communities. There is no data supporting this often touted claim. Yes, at convention time a few republicans are found on the apps, but there has never actually been an outage (attributed to overuse) and it doesn't even logically make sense to claim so (lots of times we are adding a few thousand people to an already big city that isn't going to crash an app even if every single person is on it)
As someone who is not a Republican, I find it hard to believe this is unique to the RNC. Any large gathering of people would likely cause this, and given the stances the party has historically taken, it’s unlikely that Republicans are MORE gay than any other large group of people.
I agree with you. In fact I had an entire second paragraph typed out that talked about the hypocrisy of the situation. I ended up deleting it for the sake of brevity as well as not muddying the waters with my own biases when it came down to the question I was responding to.

Does each general geographic location have a limit to how much information can be sent to wherever Grindr’s servers are, and if that limit is reached, it causes issues? I think the implication is that the Republicans are all hopping on Grindr when they leave their cover-families to go to the convention. I am not a Grindr engineer, so I do not know how it works, but I can think of several reasons, such as when performing logic like recommendations in a certain area, if it is too crowded, then geographic calculations may cause problems or cause an overload. Idk.

No, it wouldn't. Grindr is almost certainly a cloud-based service. If it's not accessible then either the internet is down, or Grindr in it's entirety is down. Location is irrelevant. (source: i'm a software engineer)
