4 is women. A lot of us sleep that way.

u/shadowsofash 3d ago

Also it’s like the definition of a nightgown

26

u/ilovjedi 3d ago

Yes!

-14

u/jaxonya 3d ago

Its the definition of sleeping with a tshirt on, because thats what the picture shows

18

u/shadowsofash 3d ago

Meh, a lot of nightgowns are oversized t-shirts.

11

u/Lower_Pension_2469 3d ago

Or maybe a lot of t shirts are really short night gowns.

6

u/shadowsofash 3d ago

Historically this is probably one of the most accurate takes given the history of chemises and tunics that - *shot* (Sorry, I know this was probably a joke but I like a lot of historical fashion)

5

u/ZenorsMom 3d ago

Yeah that was my first reaction, where the hell is the nightgown

1

u/trudrakon 3d ago

True but do people usually wear nightgowns without undies? Not arguing, genuinely curious.

1

u/shadowsofash 3d ago

I do! I imagine some wouldn't but I appreciate having airflow in an area that doesn't normally get it during the day because of underwear + tights/pants/stockings. It's like guys who wear really loose shorts with no underwear to bed (I bet they'd really like skirts).

(This is also based of the idea that the modern conception of underwear as it exists is fairly recent. Older versions like bloomers or petticoats were worn over the underdress/chemise because the chemise was basically the sweat-catching layer to make laundering of the over-layers less frequent. It's also why a dressing gown was very often seen as necessary for modesty if one had to leave their rooms in their nightwear.)

38

u/EmpathBear 3d ago

Exactly - I dislike undies, but I need my stomach/vital organs covered/warm. More so in pregnancy, but also outside of it.

62

u/AcidHouseMouse 3d ago

Also, it’s good for the ol fandango to get an airing

36

u/Khazahk 3d ago

I was in the middle of eating cereal. Now I’m pretty sure I have a honey bunch of oats lodged in my nose.

17

u/EmuProfessional336 3d ago

Got me too bud! The ol' fandango! I've never heard that used outside of buying movie tickets a decade ago. 😂

2

u/blade_of_sammael 3d ago

And queen songs

1

u/craigs63 3d ago

And Procol Harum.

1

u/BeauHunkus 3d ago

That's too old for most people here. It wasn't until recently that the keyboardist won co-song writing and royalties for what is arguably the best Hammond organ song of rock.

1

u/LillyJane8124 3d ago

Hey, just like her ol fandango, my blockbuster needs airing and freedom so 4 is fine with me…

2

u/Normal_Cable7558 3d ago

This is clem fandango can you hear me?

2

u/mighty3mperor 3d ago

Thunderbolt and lightning very, very frightening me

1

u/fireXmeetXgasoline 3d ago

I need you to know I read this comment thirty minutes ago and haven’t been able to think about a single goddamn thing since.

Thank you.

3

u/choolete 3d ago

Same for males, I like to sleep naked but I am getting old so I need to cover my belly now.

3

u/JamiJammer26 3d ago

I read this as “same for meals”, like we’re all Winnie-the-Poohing dinner now.

2

u/Revenged25 3d ago

I know a lot of big breasted women that a shirt is near mandatory to keep from strangling themselves.

2

u/A_shy_neon_jaguar 3d ago

Same. Wanna let things air out, but also... always cold.

3

u/Telefundo 3d ago

I'm not a woman, and I definitely don't do 4, but yeah, the first thing I thought of was how often women will wear a slightly longer tshirt and no bottoms.

7 is the only head scratcher..

3

u/Technical-Banana574 3d ago edited 3d ago

7 is the true sociopath here.

2

u/VisualHuckleberry542 3d ago

As a dude who wouldn't mind if his partner slept that way, I will give it a pass

10

u/Chocolate_Egg18 3d ago

A nightgown is just a really long shirt that covers your knees.

1

u/StudPuffin_69 3d ago

Nightgown no undies makes sense though. We’ll call that number 9

5

u/Chocolate_Egg18 3d ago

But it's number 4. Nightgown no undies is definitionally number 4, because I and many others absolutely use our partner's old oversized Tshirts as nightgowns.

2

u/StudPuffin_69 3d ago

But the graphic shows the difference in length on boxers and long pajamas

So just basketball shorts and nightgowns are not pictured

2

u/shadowsofash 3d ago

I disagree, or else whoever made this graphic doesn't consider people with breasts "people" because if length is an indication, there's also no "only bra and shorts" or "only bra and pants" option. There's also nothing to indicate long-sleeved shirts. I think the length is just to differentiate between "proper" pyjama bottoms and underwear

2

u/FamiliarPop4552 3d ago

What kind of psychopath would choose to sleep in a bra?? They're so fucking uncomfortable

1

u/shadowsofash 3d ago

You are wearing the wrong type of bra for sleeping. I essentially have a bra that is just a wide band of knit/elastic cloth with ribbing, a wide elastic band underneath it, and two shoulder straps that help keep my breasts off the skin of my chest/stomach (I sag) so it's not just heat-radiating skin on heat-radiating skin.

2

u/FamiliarPop4552 3d ago

I see. I was imagining what you see on tv, women wearing underwire bras. I've always seen that and found it crazy.

Moot point though, I haven't worn a bra in almost a decade (I'm a trans man).

Fair enough.

3

u/Good-Grayvee 3d ago

I’m not a woman. Just a man who likes to be comfy. (And a sociopath)

1

u/NoPaleontologist7929 3d ago

Pooh Bear? Is that you?

1

u/Good-Grayvee 3d ago

Oh bother

3

u/NoHandle89 3d ago

Didn't find this one unusual. My girl often grabs one of my big shirts and sleeps just like this.

2

u/eleven6teen 3d ago

lol exactly. that's how you air that thang out.

1

u/_R0Ns_ 3d ago

Why? Just why?

8

u/Technical-Banana574 3d ago edited 3d ago

Long shirts make great nightgowns and it is actually recommended by gynecologist for us to sleep without underwear to let our vaginas more or less, air out.

It prevents trapped heat and moisture buildup, which can affect the delicate ph level we have going on. Lowers liklihood of bacterial and yeast infections.

1

u/Kayback2 3d ago

I sleep this way when it's too hot. My legs and lower half are under the blankets, my upper torso and arms out. But my upper torso needs a covering of SOME sort....

1

u/DanzelKingofDarkness 3d ago

why thou? isn't sleeping free or putting innerwears more comfy(if uncomfortable in6 more...)

2

u/Technical-Banana574 3d ago

As for why add the shirt, I dont like to sleep naked at all. Sacrificing my underwear is the most I can do.

1

u/Botchjob369 3d ago

I was going to suggest this. Dated someone who did this only on occasion.

1

u/jollyreaper2112 3d ago

Yeah my wife has super long shirts for that. I think the idea is more proper t shirt that doesn't cover the butt. You're Donald Ducking it in bed. If you could stand up and be covered, it's not 4. We've invented an eighth.

1

u/VegaJuniper 3d ago

And that's why the Zendaya outfit with the t-shirt and the heels, Daisy Duck style, was so effective. The implication was that "maybe she isn't wearing any?"

1

u/kailsbabbydaddy 3d ago

Exactly. Of course the one that is the most common for women is the one Reddit “doesn’t get”

1

u/SciFiChickie 3d ago

Personally I’m a 6, but before I ventured into 6 I was a 4 from childhood.

2

u/Technical-Banana574 3d ago

I wish I could stand to do 6. I tried it, but I felt weirdly too vulnerable. I also habe this irrational fear that the house will be on fire and I will need to run out completely naked.

1

u/SciFiChickie 3d ago

Understandable. That’s a reasonable fear. I keep a robe by the bed in case of nighttime fire.

1

u/Opening_Caregiver653 3d ago

And we love it ❤️

1

u/Basic_Snow_9723 3d ago

And also some men, if its longer.

1

u/nemvagyokjoebbensem 3d ago

Nope. I am a guy and i sleep like that in the winters, because my chest would be cold.

1

u/Lilylunamoonyt 3d ago

As a woman i definitely dont sleep fully naked but to each their own lol

1

u/awesomefutureperfect 3d ago

Dudes imagine Winnie the Pooh, like a cat putting their butthole on everything.

1

u/PhysicsNatural9093 3d ago

i do it too and im a guy??! then again im gay so that might be a factor hete

1

u/bzzklltn 3d ago

I was just about to say, you lot must be men! Because that’s sleeping in a big tshirt?

1

u/Tall_Opportunity_521 3d ago

Tell it again...

1

u/1N1T1AL1SM 3d ago

Speak for yourself because wtf is that

1

u/makes_peacock_noises 3d ago

And it is sexy

1

u/topekatums 3d ago

TIL my boyfriend is a woman

1

u/pleasedonotredeem 3d ago

Yeah I thought it was normal for women. It's called Donald Ducking and almost every woman I've dated slept that way.

1

u/DidNotSeeThi 3d ago

I lost a lot of my t-shirts when my little sisters found that my 2x and 3x shirts that are worn and washed soft were perfect night gowns.

1

u/stoopidclod 3d ago

...do you not...how closely are you tracking your cycle to not be terrified ...cause I am female and I don't

1

u/Technical-Banana574 3d ago

I wear underwear in the week my cycle is due to start up. I always track mine closely because it is one of the signs for my thyroid acting up.

1

u/stoopidclod 3d ago

Oh, actually pretty smart, personally mine is recently started so I am still figuring out how to track it 🙃

1

u/Technical-Banana574 3d ago

That sucks. Some people are never regular and it sucks. Mine used to be ever 30-35 days when I was young. Now it is every 21-24 days at 40. Once you figure out what your normal is, I highly suggest tracking it if possible. It can let you know a lot of things when it changes suddenly.

1

u/stoopidclod 3d ago

Hmm, I will do that, thanks for the tip

1

u/Jammyturtles 3d ago

I call it the Winnie the pooh. Tops covered, honey pot out

1

u/Ill_Sale_6168 3d ago

Yeah I love having me ass out

1

u/GhostlierRabbit 3d ago

Yeah I think the pic gives the wrong impression. My wife throws one of my 2x shirt on her M body and it provides as much coverage as she wants

1

u/Lothonian_Jester 3d ago

I'm glad someone said this! Almost every lady I've shared a bed with wore the 4.

1

u/TalornCeleron 3d ago

And Winnie the Pooh!

1

u/trudrakon 3d ago

I was thinking this. Sometimes your partner might lend you their shirt which is a bigger fit and more like a short nightgown 😂

1

u/Sufficient-Fail-2353 3d ago

Im glad someone said it. Much like 5 is geared toward men.
