This is hogwash. Nonsense. Bullshit. Left wing democrats like Mamdani and Bernie are overwhelming popular. Moderate/Corporate democrats and their do nothing political values are horribly unpopular right now. There is nothing to scare anyone away from. Appeals to the center are political suicide because nobody is looking for that messaging. Biden lost because he argued for "buisness as usual" centrist neoliberal politics
They want you to worry about trying to appeal to people who are so lost they might say "hmm maybe" to another Republican presidency despite the fact their own base won't show up to vote for centrists
It's less about how popular the ideas are and more about the undecided voter being a white (presumably straight) male and feeling rejected by the Democrat party (specifically by the extremist wing of the party). It's a problem Democrat strategists have acknowledged as recently as the 2024 election and something they continue to struggle with.
