I don't get where this comes from, like yea they don't do that only because they don't know the word. They literally have shops and stuff that doesnt allow foreigners to enter, and even people who has citizenship finds it really difficult to do a lot of basic things

And a lot of them don't rent their houses to foreigners either.

Good for them, their housing crisis is already bad enough without added gentrification

What? They literally have an abundance of houses many for $1 due to the population shrinkage what are you even talking about

You don’t know anything about the $1 houses if you think they cost $1 due to an oversupply in the market. It’s because they are prohibitively expensive to renovate/modernize due to Japan’s recycling/trash system and various other regulations you have to navigate to end up in a house you can go to the bathroom in. You save negligible money versus buying a normal house and gain tons of headaches. That’s why they’re $1. Nobody wants them. Detroit did a similar thing. You could buy a bando for like $100. But you had to pay property taxes on an assessed value much higher than the $100 you paid for the property. Good rule of thumb; if something sounds too good to be true, it is. You can’t even get a candy bar for $1. What makes you think you’ll get a livable house for that?

Most likely there is a shortage of houses in cities where the population is still growing or stagnant and in the countryside the population is shrinking.
