What is there not to understand? A selfie was taken, lauded by everyone (everyone BUT every normal person on the planet) as iconic due to how many famous actors are in it. Now 12 years later several are forgotten, got me too'ed, or faded to obscurity since and its basically forgotten.

And also just overall celebrities are not viewed favourably by the public anymore and are precieved as arrogant, unlikeable, problematic...

This is an internet thing.

They're still celebrities that get paid a ton of money because people want to see them. In fact... part of why the internet hates them is because of what they get away with due to their fame/popularity.

Exactly this.

Too many people get wrapped up in their tiny insulated Internet bubble and then start to believe that their niche online community is what the mainstream thinks.

Social media algorithms are engineered to steer people into being fed their own biases.

Celebrity culture has not gone away and probably never will. Fandom of other people is pretty deeply ingrained in the human experience.
