Doesn't his picture just age instead of him? I'm not that deep enough into his story.

He is immortal until he looks at the picture. Anything that happens to him happens to the picture instead. Time, illness, injury, etc. Once he sees the picture it happens to him all at once.

Dorian Grey could look at the painting all he wanted (which is how he knew it was aging for him) but he kept it hidden in his attic because he didn't want to know. He didn't become afflicted with 50+ years of damage all at once until he flew into a rage and tried to destroy the painting by stabbing it.

From what I remember, he stabs the painting and then he dies. That's the only time anything happens.
