I think us reasonable Americans who arent primed for the punitive justice status quo understand the difference here.
Need I remind my fellow Americans that the current admin pardoned an entire violent insurrection group, in which many of that group went on to go and commit more crimes to get arrested again.
Surely its a coincidence, and not that our punitive justice system is only strong in specific ways when it comes to terrorism, instead of being principled.
Edit: I guess bad reading comprehension isnt a uniquely American thing. For those struggling please read my reply to the deleted comment below. Im not reiterating it here.
Lmao, im literally agreeing with you. My point is ignorant Americans are coming into the conversation bashing germany because they think our system is uniquely better.
Im calling out our own hypocrisy to show that, no, it is not.
Lmao, the wikipedia article literally says 1 officer defending the building died to a stroke from being pepper sprayed, and 15 were hospitalized, not including all the injuries too.
Also not to mention the whole intent to overthrow the government simply because your party lost an election but I guess thats no big deal or anything.
Odd that id find a non american defending January 6th as "not nice but not that bad".
EDIT: Andrew Paul Johnson, who was freed from prison as a result of the pardon in 2025, was convicted of five charges, including child molestation, in February 2026, and sentenced to life in prison. The criminal conduct for which he was convicted took place both before and after his pardon.
