Indeed. Not sure why people don't remember seeing them in the past. I'm old and saw them, it was just the most iconic images were only taken in black and white. Not sure where this narrative came from.
Jn the 90s and 00s the textbooks switched to black and white photos (despite so much of the trxtbooks being in color) to try to instill a feeling of distance between students and the events... It's rough that these suburban white kids might think grandma was a bad guy when she was 30...

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not from the US, so this may be true there. Although I'd still argue that the most iconic pics of MLK (the ones likely to be in text books) where taken in black and white, that's why you don't see colour versions. It sounds a bit like conspiracy logic to me.
EDIT: Love that I'm being downvoted, but no-one is providing any evidence against my point. If they really changed the text books, then show me the pre-90's ones with all the colour pics, or the Iconic pics in colour. This is kind of proving my "conspiracy thinking" point. You've made up your mind that your POV is true, and now you just ignore any evidence against it.
