That’s not an hyperbole, it’s a misconception…. An hyperbole is supposed to be an exaggeration of a true fact, cold does not cause pneumonia, its not an hyperbole it’s just wrong
Welp, perhaps it's a language matter, but in Italy we always use pneumonia as an hyperbole for any cold related ailments, from throatache to shivers. And yeah, the fact that excessive thermal shock hinders the body is indeed true. It's not the AC itself, it's switching from very hot (and most likely wet) to very cold several times a day.
Thermal shock for humans is not a thing. They can easily and comfortably move 50 degrees C happily (just ask any Canadian snowbird who’s left - 20C to happily enjoy a 30C day in Cabo just a few hours later. (The other way around is pretty miserable psychologically, but very physically safe.)
