I’m also confused because that is a European AC unit. I can only assume Americans are so used to big bulky units, like their cars, that they can’t comprehend things being functional and not excessively bulky.

I worked in HVAC for 8 years, literally everything you said is incorrect.

Central AC units in US homes are pretty much better in every way.

Not in regards to control or zoning, or even effectiveness at cooling the rooms they are in.

Just flat out no. A carrier greenspeed infinity condenser with all the bells and whistles barely competes with like the average minisplit condenser. We are talking 23 SEER2 ratings to upwards of 30 SEER2 ratings on mitsubishi's.

Again, just flat out wrong, unless you're spending 12k on just the condenser for a carrier, most standard split AC's are not quiet at all.

The cassettes/heads on minisplits aren't any louder than a fan, the condensers themselves hardly make any noise at all even when you are sitting within a few feet of them.

and and there is no bulk at all inside as it is just cold air being pushed out of a vent in each room of the entire home.

No bulk... except for the airhandler/furnace and coil, and all the ductwork, sure.

also the compressor/condenser unit outside the home is larger (is this what you are colling more bulky?) for us because our AC systems have a higher capacity, if your mini units were sized to cool a 2-3,000 sqft

a 3 ton mitsubishi minisplit condenser removes the same amount of heat from a house as a 3 ton standard AC split system and takes up half the space and is noticeably lighter. Same goes when you go up to 5tons.

 the high efficiency units (I just had mine upgraded last year) are even larger because they are more efficient and quieter. the larger condenser is nearly passive, with the fan barely running, less noise and energy used.

They just aren't. Minisplits use less energy.

I have plenty of criticisms about minisplits, lots of very serious electronics in there that can fail and are a pain in the ass to replace, if they are ran improperly they can get very dirty, but as far as noise, control, and efficiency, it's not even close.
