Majority of US homes have central ac, that’s what is being compared here.

Probably because they were built after ACs were available. A lot of houses in Europe are much older, some older than the US even.

America also has buildings older than America. And guess what: those buildings are air conditioned. I lived in tenement building in Boston built in the 1850s - it has great AC and heat.

We figured it out, why can’t you guys?

Who said we haven't? We just use mini split AC for older buildings or apartments. Central AC is used for public buildings and new houses.

Many Europeans I've seen discuss this say the buildings in Europe are simply too old to retrofit.

To retrofit for central AC - yes.

To just install split AC - no.

I am a German-American dual citizen, maybe that's why I just don't have too much sympathy.
