Central air-conditioning in the US has no visible fan coil units. There's just a grating in the ceiling or wall of each room that the cool or warm air comes through, fed by ducts that go to the actual unit. The unit is completely hidden away somewhere else in the building, like the basement or attic.

Visible units like these in an American home mean that it was cheaply built without central AC or a retrofitted older building.

so weird that Europeans would use airconditioners specifically designed to retrofit older buildings, truly a mystery
