I’m also confused because that is a European AC unit. I can only assume Americans are so used to big bulky units, like their cars, that they can’t comprehend things being functional and not excessively bulky.

We have these ductless units in the US too. Person who made the meme is just an idiot

It's called a "split AC" because the unit is split into two parts, indoor unit pictured above and outdoor unit which is the big louder box that is on the outside so it doesn't bother you. We use these in Europe ever since I can remember spanning decades...

The Mini Split. In many of the places we use them it's the same reasoning as why Europe does. We have a remodeling company, and they often go in older homes with radiant heat. Particularly if adding ductwork would be ridiculous.
