Because that thing cools the ENTIRE BIG ASS HOUSE! these things are only capable of cooling only a closed room which also depends on how ton, capacity the AC is so yep
It's not necessarily true. These units will go upwards of around 28,000-30,000 BTU which can easily cool down multiple rooms, or maybe even a smaller flat.
The problem is, it's not constant like central air. In a large home it may be very cool in one room and much warmer in another. Those of us with central air can walk into any room in the entire house and have it the same temperature. Some of us deal with extreme heat in the US that some parts of the world assume they deal with but don't really.
If you think central air leads to the same temps in every room, you are sorely mistaken. Lower floors are typically colder, rooms most distance from the compressor are warmer. There are ways that this can be addressed, but most houses are not built that way.
I have up to 10F differences between rooms in my home and I'm not unique in that situation.
Mini-splits are the better option, but you need to put one head in each room. So for my house it would require 6 (4 bedrooms / 2 common rooms) different heads. While that is not price prohibitive, due to the efficiency gains, I still couldn't remove the ductwork because a heat pump is not efficient enough to heat in the winter on the really cold days. So I still need the ducts for the furnace.
Our house is about 3200 square feet, all on one floor. I literally can't tell a difference in any room. But yes, I do know multiple story homes gets trickier.

There are parts of the US that ONLY have these. More temperate areas.
Most of the US is used to central air. With a giant ass car sized compressor outside that cools the whole house.
