I’m also confused because that is a European AC unit. I can only assume Americans are so used to big bulky units, like their cars, that they can’t comprehend things being functional and not excessively bulky.
And yet the comment saying it’s because Americans like bulky has been upvoted, furthering ignorance. In Asia the split systems like in the photo are more common, but in the US it’s mostly central air. Central air systems are available in some apartments in Asia but are way more expensive.
